All construction shall be in accordance with:
1. The attached approved design.
2. All requirements specified in Anchorage Municipal code Chapters 15.55 and 15.65 and the State of Alaska
Wastewater Disposal Regulations (18AAC72) and Drinking Water Regulations (18AAC80)
3. The wastewater code requires inspections during the installation. The engineer shall notify the Development
Services Department per AMC 15.65. Provide notification by calling (907) 343-7904 (24/7).
4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather
shall be either:
a. Opened and Closed on the same day, or
b. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing
Special Provisions: Prior to Inspection Report approval, submit the ROW Encroachment permit for the well in

Your request for a waiver of the required 100 feet horizontal separation from the
public sewer manhole to the private well has been approved. The approved separation distance is
67.0 feet. In addition, the well is approved to be 47 feet to the sewer main.
This waiver approval applies. to the proposed well only. Any future upgrade to the on-site
wastewater disposal system will require all separation distances be met or another approval from
this department.

Subject: Alyeska #3 Block 22 Lot 5: NHN Higher Terrace Rd
Well permit and waiver request
Dear On-Site Services Engineer:
The owner of the above lot intends to build a 3 -bedroom home on the property. The lot has public
sewer available, but not public water. The attached site plan identifies the location of the home as
well as the proposed well. The well does not conflict with any septic systems on adjacent lots .
The ground surface on the lot slopes in the front toward the north. Beyond that initial rise, it drops
slightly toward a small mapped stream in the lot, which flows toward the northwest. The home
will by necessity be in the northeast corner near the road and out of the stream setback. This
significantly limits the possible well locations, and therefore it is unfeasible to locate the well
outside the required separation distances from the public sewer.
We were able to locate well logs from the Alaska DNR for four nearby properties, showing the
typical depth to bedrock in the area:
Alyeska #3, Block 21 Lot 14: 34’ to bedrock
Alyeska #3, Block 21 Lot 18: 18’ to bedrock
Alyeska #6, Block 22 Lot 8: 18’ to bedrock
Alyeska #6, Block 22 Lot 13: 30’ to bedrock
The relatively shallow bedrock will be an impermeable layer to any sewer effluent that leaks out
of the public sewer main or manhole. Since the new well will be required to be cased for a
minimum of 40’, the effluent will not be able to contaminate the well. Beyond that, the well will
be located upslope from the main, further limiting any possibility of contamination. We hereby
request a waiver for the well to be located 47’ from the public sewer main and 67’ from the public
sewer manhole.

Encroachment Permit.

ALL WORK MUST BE INSPECTED
Field Inspection Request required 2 working days in advance of starting work and 2 working

number.
