Pannone, Principal Registered Professional Engineer E-mail: steve@panenaak.com Municipality of Anchorage Development Services Department On -Site Water & Wastewater Program 4700 Elmore Road Anchorage, AK Subject: Thunderbird Heights #1 Block 8 Lot 4 Drain Field to Foundation Waiver Request Ladies and Gentlemen: We hereby request a separation distance waiver from the newly installed drain field to the constructed foundation on the subject property to a distance of seven -point -eight (7.8) feet. A deep trench absorption field was installed on the subject property prior to the construction of the dwelling located on this lot. Following construction of the dwelling, the subject drain field was found to be located at a reduced separation distance due to minor adjustments in the dwelling's location and footprint during construction. PES was not on site or consulted during construction of the foundation. The native receiving soil at the trench location consists predominantly of granular materials, including gravels and sands with silt (GM), which exhibit relatively favorable infiltration characteristics. Based on estimated worst -case infiltration conditions (46% infiltration from above the drain field lateral), the vertical zone of influence from the drain field is projected to extend approximately eleven (11.0) feet or more below finished grade. The dwelling is constructed on a turn -down slab foundation, which further mitigates concerns of structural or sanitary impact. In addition, effluent bio-mat build up is generally confined to within a limited distance from any drain field boundary. Given these conditions, we believe the installed separation provides adequate protection of the structure. Granting this waiver is not likely to affect the health and safety of this lot or the surrounding lots now or in the future. The property is currently undeveloped. The proposed installation will serve a three-bedroom (3) house. This lot and surrounding lots are served by a community well with that well located more than 200' from the subject property and septic installation. 1. Soils: A test hole was performed by Pannone Engineering Services on the lot on 07.18.2022. Groundwater was not observed at time of test hole and bedrock was not encountered. Groundwater monitoring was performed on 07.25.2022, groundwater was not observed. Based on the overall soils appearance and percolation test; an application rate of 0:80 gallon/day/square feet was used for a conventional wastewater system in the area of the test hole. 2. Soil Absorption System Design. See Attached design package. 3. Surface Water: There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed septic tank and drain field. 4. Topography: See attached site plan for the current area topography. The north portion of the lot no longer matches that of the plot plan. The site has been graded to accommodate the home with the remaining low area to the northwest of the lot being filled with a structural fill and compacted in lifts. S. Drawing Markings: The Drawings are marked "For MoA Review Only". When written notification that the review is complete and no further comments are received from MoA On -Site Department, the note will be removed and "For Construction" drawings will be issued.
