Waiver is Granted: X Waiver is not Granted: A Date: 2 ` 24 2 Approved by: (, L, Name of R viewer ............................................................................... **** VARIAN C EIWAIVE R REVIEW **** December 4, 2025 MOA Development Services, On-Site Water & Wastewater Program 4700 Elmore Rd Anchorage, AK 99507 Subject: Robindale, Lot 11 – 24135 Sunnyside Dr Waiver Request: Separation between fields – Trench to foundation Dear On-Site Services Engineer: During the installation of this septic system, the owner-installer placed the first trench within 10’ of the foundation and the second trench at an angle that caused one end of it to encroach on the required 12’ separation between trenches. It seems that this was done partly because of contours on site. Forge Engineering was present for the inspection at the bottom of the first trench to verify soils, but did not measure the separation between the trenches or to the foundation until after the second trench was backfilled. The soils on the lot are primarily sand and gravel and drain faster than 5 min/in. The effluent from the trenches will primarily drain straight down below each trench. While the ends of the trenches are very close together, the effect is the same as if this was on trench dug with a ‘dog-leg’ on the end of the trench. The reduced separation at the ends of the trenches will not impact system performance. Excavating and relocating either trench would cause unnecessary disturbance to the surrounding soils with little functional benefit. The southern trench is located approximately 9 feet from the slab-on-grade foundation. Since there are no footings or stem walls, and the trench maintains an effective depth of 6 feet (total depth of 11 feet), effluent will remain well below the slab. The trench consists of septic rock, which also eliminates concerns about undermining the structure. The foundation will not affect trench performance, nor will the trench affect the structure. For these reasons, we request a waiver for 2 feet of separation between the trenches at the closest point, and a 9-foot separation between the south trench and the foundation. The attached site plan identifies the location of the home as well as the proposed well, septic location and alternate site. The ground surface on the lot slopes very mildly toward the northwest at between 5 and 10% slopes. There are no slopes greater than 25% within 50 feet downslope of either the primary or alternate site. Contours are shown on the site plan showing the grade and direction of flow. Stormwater drainage will not impact this septic system. The new trench will be constructed parallel to the slope as much as possible. Wells on this and adjacent lots are shown. No conflicts exist between this proposed system and any other well or septic system, whether on this lot or adjacent lots. The new system will be a minimum of 100’ from all wells and surface water, and more than 5’ away from the septic tank. The alternate site is located more than 12’ away. Please refer to the attached test hole logs, plan and profile pages for the septic design. If this design is followed, there will be no adverse impacts to adjacent properties.
