Initial Permit for Private Well, Septic Tank and Absorption Field To Whom It May Concern: I am writing to request a permit for the construction of a new well and septic system for the proposed residence located at Alpine Acres Estates, Lot 1. The new well and septic system will service the proposed, four-bedroom, single family residence with a one -bedroom auxiliary dwelling unit (ADU). Design Calculations: Percolation Rate: 10 MIN/IN Application Rate: 0.8 GPD/SF Number of Bedrooms: 5 BR Design Flow: 750 GPD Min. Absorption Area: 938 SF Total Depth: 10.5 FT Effective Depth: 6.8 FT Width: 2 FT Minimum Length: 69 FT Design Length: 75 FT Effective Design Absorption Area: 1020 SF Septic Tank Size: 1500 gallon The system will consist of a 1500 -gallon tank with a deep trench absorption field. The absorption field will consist of one, 75 -foot -long deep trench that will contain 6.8 -feet of effective sewer rock. A reserve field with similar specifications is provided in the drawings. Topography: The topography throughout the 4.33 Acre lot varies. Generally, the western % of the lot drain southeast to northwest at approximately 20-41% with intermittent areas of lower gradient. The eastern of the lot is graded at approximately 20-30% southwest to northeast. The slope of the land in the area of the proposed absorption field is graded up to 35% southeast to northwest. The disposal field is over 100 -feet up -gradient from any slopes exceeding 46%. Provisions for steep slope disposal fields have been applied to the proposed design. Wells: Public records indicate that wells in the area are finding water between 100 and 266 feet deep. Wells are producing between 9 and 35 GPM. Considering the low density of development in this area, the proposed well should be able to provided the required flow without adversely impacting any adjacent existing wells or properties. The proposed, private water well will be located on the eastern side of the lot, over 100 feet from the proposed septic tank and absorption field locations, as well as any neighboring septic systems. The surrounding lots are also serviced by private water wells, which are also all over 100 feet from the proposed wastewater disposal system and proposed water well location. The proposed design will not conflict with any neighboring water wells or wastewater disposal systems. Septic Systems: There are no existing septic systems within 100 feet of the proposed tank and absorption fields. The proposed system will not adversely impact any of the adjacent properties. Soils: Two test holes were excavated to depths of 17 -feet (TH1) and 16.5 -feet (TH2). Bedrock was not encounter during the excavation. The soils were uniform for the full depth of the test pits consisting of silty sandy gravel. The percolation rate was measured between 10 and 3.1 minutes per inch, the more constrictive measurement was used for the design of the system. Both test holes were excavated in May, no ground water was encountered during the excavation. Both test holes were also monitored throughout the following year, including months with the highest precipitation. No ground water was observed in either of the two test holes at any point during the observation period. Surface Water: Per the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) Wetlands Mapping database, there are no wetlands or open channels on the lot or within the vicinity of the proposed tank, absorption field or well. The installation of this proposed private well and septic system complies with MOA codes and the drainage flowing onto and off the property will not adversely affect the performance of the proposed systems, or neighboring systems. The proposed well and septic system will not change the general slope of the area nor will ponding and/or concentration of surface runoff result from this installation. Adjacent Properties.: The surrounding developed lots are serviced by private water and wastewater systems. These neighboring systems are all located over 100 -feet from the proposed well, tank and absorption fields. This proposed system will have no probable adverse impacts to adjacent properties. Waivers: None This parcel is undeveloped and has no pre-existing facilities. The proposed tank will be 1,500 -gallons, which meets the minimum tank size required for a five -bedroom residence. The proposed absorption field will be installed in an appropriate location to service all proposed structures and will be sized for a five - bedroom demand.
