All construction shall be in accordance with:
1. The attached approved design.
2. All requirements specified in Anchorage Municipal code Chapters 15.55 and 15.65 and the State of Alaska
Wastewater Disposal Regulations (18AAC72) and Drinking Water Regulations (18AAC80)
3. The wastewater code requires inspections during the installation. The engineer shall notify the Development
Services Department per AMC 15.65. Provide notification by calling (907) 343-7904 (24/7).
4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather
shall be either:
a. Opened and Closed on the same day, or
b. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing

Well and Septic System Design
Design Narrative
The proposed 2‐bedroom home (becomes an ADU in the future) will be served by a private well serving
the entire property and its own 2‐bedroom septic system. A future 3‐bedroom single family home may
be constructed at a later date with its own separate septic system.
Well: The design locates the proposed well approximately 47‐feet from an adjacent propertys well to
help minimize the protective well radius coverage impacting the subject property. The closest offsite
septic system to the well is approximately 145‐feet away, across Amonson Road on McKinley Heights #1,
Block 3, Lot 2.
Septic: The proposed septic system is located on the opposite side of the property from the proposed
well. There are no known wells on adjacent properties within 150‐feet of the proposed septic system.
The Wide trench drainfield is located on a 22% slope that extends approximately 20‐feet down gradient
where the slope transitions to 33% for about 30‐feet, and then transitions to 45% from approximately 49‐
feet to 100‐feet from the drainfield. Although the drainfield is located on a slope less than 25%, it has
been designed using the stricter Steep Slopes code (AMC 15.65.210) requirements to ensure it will not
daylight out of the aforementioned 33% and 45% slopes. The much less‐than 1‐mpi fast percolating soils
found at the site satisfy the requirements for Hydrologic Soil Group (HSG) A, and septic effluent is
expected to have very little lateral migration as it passes down through the soil.
The proposed Wide trench complies with the following AMC 15.65.210 steep slope requirements:
AMC 15.65.210.B4 Subsections:
a: The 22% slope is less than the 46% maximum slope,
a.i: The bottom of the upgradient side of the drainfield is 10‐feet above the bottom of the soils test hole,
a.ii: The trench does not exceed 60‐inches in width,
a.iii: The entire slope within 100‐feet down gradient of the drainfield is naturally vegetated,
a.v: The disposal field is a minimum of 100‐feet up‐gradient from any slope exceeding 46%,
b and c: The percolation rate is <1‐mpi, so these subsections dont apply.
