SOILS INVESTIGATION Test Hole One test hole was excavated on March 5, 2025, and logged by Charles A. Leet, PE. The test hole was advanced to a depth of 12-feet. Groundwater was observed at 10-feet, and no impermeable layer were encountered. Groundwater was observed to be at 7.5 on May 5, 2025. See the attached soil log. Percolation Test A percolation was conducted and determined to drain faster than a minute per inch, therefore a soil sample of the receiving soils were taken to the laboratory for testing, see attached gradation test results from Hansen, PE, dated March 27, 2025. Based on the percolation test and laboratory results a sand liner will be required. TOPOGRAPHY The lot slopes generally from the northeast to the southwest at approximately 5%-6%. See the attached site plan for the topography. SEPTIC TANK REQUIREMENTS There is no existing septic tank. The existing log crib will be pumped limed and backfilled with Type II gravel and topped with 4-inches of topsoil. DRAIN FIELD DESIGN We are proposing a 15-foot wide by 58-foot absorption bed. See Sheet 1 of the design package REPLACEMENT SYSTEM See Sheet 2 of the design package. Municipality of Anchorage On-site Water and Wastewater REVIEWED FOR CODE COMPLIANCE OSP251141, Curtis Townsend, 08/11/25 T12N, R3W, Sec 33, Lot 32A Page 2 of 2 14100 Elmore Road June 19, 2025 Professional Consulting --- Practical Solutions ARE LLC, project # 2024061 SURFACE WATERS There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed system. Drainage arrows on the site plan indicate the slope and direction of stormwater runoff. (See attached site plan) WELLS & DRINKING WATER This lot and the surrounding developed lots are served by private wells the required separation distance will be maintained. SURROUNDING PROPERTIES We do not anticipate any adverse effects on the neighboring septic systems, reserve areas or drainage patterns by the installation of the proposed septic system. BUOYANCE DETERMINATION See attached buoyance calculations. We do not anticipate the need for additional anchoring of the tank. The tank will need to be filled during installation until four feet of backfill material has been placed over the tank, to avoid floating during construction. Sincerely, June 19, 2025 Charles A. Principal Engineer Attachments: Permit application Neighboring Wells and Septic’s Proposed Septic Plan Absorption Field Cross Section Absorption Bed Details Soil(s) log w/ percolation test data Orenco Pump calculation and Pump Curve Buoyancy Calculations Asbuilt ON-SITE WASTEWATER DISPOSAL SYSTEM WITH RAISE MOUND 14100 ELMORE PAGE 1 OF1 JUNE 19, 2025 Alaska Rim Engineering Professional Consulting…Practical Solutions BUOYANCY The following are calculations for buoyancy and tank restraints: Assume the 1,500-gallon tank is buried with 3-feet soil cover + 2-inches ridged insulation; tank footprint = 12-feet by 4.8-feet = 58 sf; tank weight = 1,200 lbs. Groundwater has been determined by groundwater monitoring to be at 7.5-feet. Accounting for foundation depth and 2% fall in the sewer pipe coming from the house the tank will be mostly submerge during construction. Therefore, assuming the tank fully immersed in water; assume tank covered with 3-foot of dry soil. Sum of the force in the Y-direction +(positive) in the up direction: LOADS ACTING DOWNWARD Dead load = weight tank + weight soil cover (unsaturated conditions) = 1,200 lbs. + 115 lbs./cft x 3-feet x 58 sf = -21,210 lbs. UPLIFT FORCE ON TANK Uplift force on tank = (1,500 gal / 7.48 gal/cft) x 62.4 lbs./cft = +12,513 lbs. SUMMATION OF FORCES Summation of forces =-21,210 lbs. + 12,513 lbs. = -8,696 lbs. RECOMMENDATION: No additional anchors are required for final installation The contractor will need to fill the tank for installation.
