Waiver Request
Dear On-Site Services Engineer:
During the installation of the new septic tank and drain field, an undocumented 25’ long 2’
effective trench with a total depth of 6’ was found in the assumed location of the existing permitted
log crib. Both ends of the trench were exposed, allowing us to assume these dimensions. Due to
the amount of space available and in order to avoid the removal of several large trees, the new
trench was installed 3’ away (at the closest point) to the existing undocumented trench. Since the
soils encountered on site were fast absorbing and mostly sand with a low silt content, and since
the majority of the trench is greater than 3’ away, we expect effluent to travel mostly vertically
and no adverse impacts or communication with the new trench. Therefore, we request a variance
for the required separation of 14’ to be reduced to 3’.

Septic System Design
Dear On-Site Services Engineer:
The septic tank on the subject lot has exceeded its useful life and must be replaced. The absorption
trench will also be replaced, but increased in size to serve a five-bedroom home. We are submitting
this application for a permit to construct a new septic tank and absorption trench. The attached site
plan identifies the location of the home, the existing water service line and the proposed and
existing septic system sites. No conflicts exist between this proposed septic system location and
any other well, water service or septic system, whether on this lot or adjacent lots.
The ground surface on the lot is virtually flat with a slight slope to the southwest. The absorption
trench will be aligned slightly out of parallel with the ground surface contours. The south end will
be approximately 1’ lower than the north end. The effluent delivery line will be placed at 3.5’
below the surface at the low end for a total depth of 10.5’ and 2’ below the surface at the high end
for a total depth of 9.0’. The effective depth of the absorption trench will not be out of the
accepting soil layer at either end. A profile alignment diagram is included with the design. We
request a waiver be issued allowing the trench to be constructed as designed.
Ground contours are shown on the site plan indicating the grade and direction of flow. Stormwater
drainage will not impact the proposed septic system. The new system will be a minimum of 100’
from all wells and 100’ from surface water and more than 5’ from the septic tank.
The system is designed based on a test hole placed on the adjacent lot placed in 1994. A new test
hole will be placed at the location shown on the Site Plan. A percolation test will be performed
and water monitoring completed. If conditions differ from those used in the design a change order
will be submitted for review and approval. Please add the test hole requirement as a condition to
the permit.

39 inches. On 14ay 21st approximately 600 gal.. of liquid
was dumped into the tank. The following measurernents of
the liquid depth were taken:

After 20 hrs. 341,
lest Result: The system absorbed 600 gal. in a 20 hour period. This

Approval for the individual sewer_ and water facilities
cannot be granted until the following items have been
completed:
(1) The septic tank pumped with a receipt submitted
to this office.
(2) An adequacy test needs to be performed on the existing
leaching area. This test will determine if the system
is adequate according to National Standards. A listing
of private firms performing the test is enclosed. This
report needs to be submitted to this office for our
review.
