The DHEP does this as a courtesy to purchasers of homes and their lending institutions in order to satisfy certain federal and state requirements. Subdivision Waiver Request, WR86-041 Dear Mr. Chambers: A waiver of the well to septic system separation distance requirements is not needed for the subject property. Prior to June of 1969 the well to septic system (both the leachfield and tank) setback requirement was only 50 feet. The tank and leachfield on the subject property meet this requirement. The septic system has "grandfather rights" because it was installed prior to the state ordinance change in June of 1969. Please be aware that these grandfather rights apply to the existing system only. Upgrades or enlargements of the septic system must meet current separation distance requirements. OF HEALTH & ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION A P R `l Affi RECEIVED Attached, is the checklist for Health Authority approval; results of the water sample test by Chemlab and an as -built for the subject property. The system is quite dated - pre -•1968. The present owners have lived there for about 11 years and reportedly have not experi- enced any problems with the water or sewage disposal system. The house has a deep crawl space without a concrete slab. The natural soils are left exposed showing a coarse-grained sandy gravel. This condition is present from 3J feet below ground surface to the bottom of excavation about 8 feet below the existing exterior finish grade. A water table was not observed except in the well at 48.0 feet below ground level. During my site visit and testing and also an as -built survey by QUADRA Engineering, the seepage pit was indirectly measured to have a 97 -foot separation from the well. The septic tank separation from the well was indirectly measured to be 57 feet. The site topography is relatively level with no noticeable slope from the soil absorption system toward the well. History of site does not indicate contamination problems and the well test was satisfactory. Therefore, on behalf of the property owners Glenn and Lynne Brown a waiver of the 100 --foot separation criteria is requested. If you have questions, please call me at 276-3770.
