ANCHORAGE) AK. Sam 907/2.76-4245 January 29, 1979 Mr. Harold Mims Box 4-258 Anchorage, Alaska 99509 Re: Proposed Mims Subdivision Subsurface Soils Investigation Our Job No. 78208 Dear Mr. Mims: This report presents the results of our soils investigation for the proposed subdivision of a 40 -acre tract of land located north of Rabbit Creek Road and above Golden View Drive. The field investigation was conducted on January 9 and 10, 1979. The results of that investigation are included in this report as follows: Vicinity Map Testhole Location Sketch Proposed Subdivision Layout Testhole Logs (Sheets I hrough 11) Perculation Test Data✓ S5®6 $MAR 7 1919 Summary of Laboratory Test Data Standard Explanatory Information Drilling was accomplished utilizing a mobile drill rig mounted on a Nodwell Vehicle, owned and operated by Denali Drilling, Inc. The te>*ho1-es were logged and Perculation tests conducted by our firm. Harding -Lawson and Associates performed the laboratory test data on grab samples taken during the drilling operation. The purpose of the investigation was to provide sufficient soils data for establishing the feasibility of on site disposal of sanitary waste using seepage pits. To accomplish this, we drilled 11 borings distributed across the site as shown on the attached Testhole Location Sketch. These borings were uniformly spaced across the site to identify the various soil zones for perculation characteristics. During the drilling, our engineer was present to log the holes and to obtain grab samples of the various soil types. All soils were visually classified in the field in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System as described uCD ED LD A r GORDON D. UNWIN, P.E. LEO SCHEBEN,JR..P,E.,L,S, EARL D. KORYNTA.P.E JAMES A. HUETTL. AJ,A. w Mr. Harold Mims January 29, 1979 Page 2 herein. The grab samples were brought back to the laboratory for further analysis and to verify the field logs. In addition to the field logs and soil sampling, several perculation tests were conducted. Based on the visual classification of the soil types during -the logging of the testholes, areas with probable high and low perculation ranges were identified. One or more perculation tests were then conducted in each of these ranges to establish the probable high and low perculation rates across the site. SITE AND SOIL CONDITIONS The site is a 1320 foot square parcel located north of Rabbit Creek Road. Mercedes Road traverses the middle one-third of the site from south to north. The entire site slopes uniformly from east to west with slopes ranging from 5 to 20%. There are no areas within the parcel with slopes in excess of 25%. A natural drainage Swale follows along the approximate southerly boundary of the site. The surface of the site is blanketed b an organic mat of forest stuff or peat ranging in depth from 6" to 18", averaging appro`xir>Ya1y f'"- Underlying the organic mat is a layer of fine organic sandy silt or silty sand (topsoil) ranging in depth of up to 2.5'. The subsurface soils consist primarily of silty gravelly sands and silty sandy gravels to the depths explored (16'). Based on the laboratory analysis of grab samples taken during drilling, the amount of fines ranges from a low of approximately 10% to a high of approximately 35%. No water table was encountered across the site with the exception of testholes #3 and #11, which are in the vicinity of the lower end of the drainage swale. The water table in testhole 7173 was located at the 14' level and in testhole #11 at the 11' level. The lots in the vicinity of testholes #3 and #11 were increased in size to discount all area within the parcel with probable shallow water table. Based on the observed field perculation rates, visual testhole logs and laboratory data, on site sanitary waste disposal systems appear feasible on all lots within the proposed subdivision. Minimum perculation rates for the proposed lots are estimated or measured as follows: Block 1: Lots 1 and 2 - 20 Lots 3, 4, 6587 9, and 1 -?10 to 20 min/inch Lots 5, 11, 12, 13, and 14 - 5 10 min inc Block 2: s 79 Lots 1 and 2 - 5 to 10 min/inch Lots 3, 4, 5, and 6 - 10 to 20 min/inch Block 3: Lots 1 and 2 - 20 to 30 min/inch Lots 3, 7, 8, 9, and 10 - 5 to 10 min/inch Lots 4, 5, and 6 - 3 to 5 min/inch We hope this is sufficient for your present needs.
