The owners plan to add an additional bedroom to the house changing the total number of bedrooms from 3 to 4. By changing the number of bedrooms they also need to upgrade their drainfield. We are proposing to re -utilize the 1,500 gallon concrete septic tank and install a 24" Orenco pump vault following the tank along with installing a new 5 wide trench type drainfield sized for 1 bedroom to work in parallel with the existing drainfield which is sized for 3 bedrooms. Two (2) flow splitters will be installed to split the flow 75/25 to each trench (75% to the existing trench & 25% to the proposed trench). We are proposing to use the data from the testhole performed by Robert Cowan, P.E. Comments regarding the design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: See the attached 1996 log which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. We are proposing to excavate down to the GW/SP material, import MOA approved sand to bring the bottom of rock elevation to within 5 feet of the existing grade. See drawing 3 of 3 for more detail. rA percolation test -was not performed on the, GW/SP material, however, itis reasonable to assume that this material would .perc the same/or faster than the underneath percolated material (SM) classified by Robert Cowan, P.E. 2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications. 3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface water concerns. 4. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached topography drawing, the average topography around the proposed drainfield is relatively flat. We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic systems. If you )nave any questions, please contact us at 337-6179. These inspections will occur as follows: 1. The first inspection must be conducted after the excavation of ditches, pits, trenches, or beds and before the installation of any gravel. A septic tank may be set in place, but may not be backfilled before this inspection. 2. The second inspection must be conducted after the placement of the silt barrier, gravel, distribution lines, standpipes, cleanouts, and insulation, but before the placement of any other backfill. 3. The final inspection is to occur upon final grading of the property. Often there will be more than these 3 inspections required. Especially with the installation of multiple trenches, sand filters, pressurized distribution systems, etc. Thus, the inspecting engineer is to be contacted at least 24 hours prior to the start of construction. If necessary, a pre -construction meeting will take place on-site. The inspecting engineer will not coordinate, direct or control in any way the contractors activities. The owner shall contract with the contractor to perform the work outlined in these specifications and plans and in accordance with the attached M.O.A. permit. There will be no contractual arrangement existing between the contractor and S & S Engineering. S & S Engineering shall be the owner's representative and will inspect the work as stated above to document the contractors activities. Final acceptance of the contractors work rests with the owner and the M.O.A. Page Five Lot 19, Block 1, Seacliff Subdivision June 17, 1996 S & S Engineering shall have no liability to the owner or to others for acts or omissions of the contractor or any other persons performing work on this project or the failure of the contractor to carry out the work in accordance with these construction documents. S & S Engineering's inspecting engineer will not be responsible for the construction means, methods, techniques, sequence, procedures or the safety precautions incident to this project. Engineer's Printed Name JEFFREY A. GARNESS Date I (Rev. 11/05) Jeff Garness From: ARM Services LLC <armservicesak@outlook.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 30, 2015 9:33 AM To: Erik Widger Cc: David Garness; Jeff Garness Subject: Seacliff s/d; B1 L19 - 5216 Shorecrest - septic repairs Hello Erik, All of the repairs were completed at the subject property. The foundation cleanout in the downstairs bathroom was inspected and ties into the main sewer line (along with the toilet) in the basement. It is a 3" line (with a quick access plug), sticking out of the wall, just left of the toilet. ARM opened the access panel in the adjacent wall, to verify that the these sewer lines were all tied together (behind the wall). It is clearly a dedicated cleanout for snaking the main sewer line before it exists the building. The far south cleanout in the drainfield was exposed, cut clean, and extended above grade. The far south monitoring tube in the drainfield was fixed, to match the correct elevation. The far north cleanout in the drainfield, was excavated all of the way down into the drainfield, fixed, and a new standpipe was attached. The far north monitoring tube in the drainfield was found, repaired and extended above grade, and now reflects the correct depth to the bottom of the drainfield. Also worth noting, the second double cleanout was also missing, and was not on a our to do list. ARM found this broken pipe about 6" below grade, cut it clean, and extended it above grade. It looks like there may be a belly in the line, as this pipe (second cleanout after the tank) was holding a decent amount of water. I did not measure it, but it looked to be at least 3". Based upon all of the broken pipes, and broken shards of plastic/dirt that ARM removed from the pipes when we dug them up, we're going to recommend that the pipes from the tank to the field are jetted out, and the drainfield itself is jetted and sucked out to remove any debris that reside in the pipes. The tank cleanout still needs a cap, as a standard cap would not fit the large pipe. I will take care of this and send you a photo when it's done. Thanks so much.
