COSA & Request for Separation Distance Waiver
Ladies & Gentlemen,
The existing 3 -bedroom residence at the referenced property is served by AWWU public sewer and a private on-
site well. In accordance with Anchorage Code Chapter 15.55, we are requesting approval of a waiver allowing
the existing separation distance of approximately 40 feet between the well and an existing 16 -inch diameter
sewer main within an easement along the north boundary of the property.
MOA records indicate that a well permit was issued on 4/22/77 and the well was drilled on 2/28/78. The sewer
main record drawings are dated 1977.
Site Constraints and Topography
The surface topography slopes toward the north, from the well to the sewer main. The existence of a another
sewr main and sewer manhole in Tiffany Terrace preludes the option of relocating the well to obtain the required
separation.
Waiver Justification
The well log shows several confining "clay" layers between the sewer depth and the aquifer. The well and sewer
main have been in operation for more than 43 years. The result of a current water quality analysis for
nitrate/nitrate was non-detectable, and a coliform bacteria analysis was satisfacotry.
A signed owner's statement is attached. Please advise when an invocie has been generated and I will pay the fees

Mr. Thronson,
As requested, Erdman & Associates performed a well flow test at the referenced property.
The well log (copy attached) indicates that the well is 60 feet deep, and has a eported yield of 12 gallons per
minute (gpm).
We performed a flow test, during which we pumped an average 8.2 gpm for 80 minutes. Water samples were
analyzed for coliform bacteria, arsenic, nitrate/nitrate, and lead, and the results were satisfactory. Copies of the
laboratory reports are attached.
Our investigation revealed that the well is approximately 40 feet from the public sewer main located within the
easement along the north boundary of the lot. State of Alaska regulations and Municipality of Anchorage code
require a minimum separation of 75 feet. If you wish, we can assist you with application to the Municipality for
a separation distance waiver.

I located the sewer line cleanout beneath the deck at the back of the house and found it to be greater than 25 feet from the
well.
