We are submitting this permit application for the construction of a new absorption trench. The attached site plan identifies the location of the home on the lot. The existing well and septic system along with the proposed absorption trench are also shown. No conflicts exist between this proposed system and any other well or septic system, whether on this lot or adjacent lots. The ground surface on the lot is mostly flat near the northwest corner with a slight 1% bias to the north. It is in that flatter area that the proposed absorption trench is located. The ground surface at the south end of the trench is less than 1' lower than the north end. There are no slopes greater than 25% within 50 feet downslope of the proposed trench. Storm water drainage will not impact this septic system. The neve trench will be constructed out of parallel with the slope, but completely in the accepting soil layer. The test hole placed near the proposed trench indicated poorly graded gravel to 5' below the surface with a percolation rate less than 1 minute per inch. The absorption area in the trench will include 1' of this layer. The underlying layer will slow the absorption of effluent as it absorbs water at 6.5 minutes per inch. The new absorption trench will be constructed 1' from the north property line as there is little room on the lot for an upgrade. The neighboring absorption trench is more than 15' away from the corner of the new trench. This trench is scheduled to be abandoned as a new septic system is currently under construction on this lot. All required separation distances are met. The soils in this area are very good for the absorption of septic effluent. We expect little or no horizontal migration. We request a waiver to allow the new absorption trench to be constructed at the location shown. Wells on this and adjacent lots are shown. The new system will be a minimum of 100' from all wells and surface water, 200' from cominunity wells and more than 5' away from the septic tank. Due to the limited amount of space on the lot, we are requesting a waiver for a reduction in separation between the proposed and existing trench from the required 16' to 10'. Only a portion of the new trench will be 10' away from the existing trench and no adverse impact or communication is expected between the two trenches. Clean soils on the lot insure that water absorption will be downward with little or no migration in a horizontal direction. Please refer to the attached plan and profile pages for the septic design. If this design is followed, there will be no adverse impacts to adjacent properties. Sincerely, Michael E. Due to the difficulty of installation and despite the contractor's efforts to meet all separation requirements, the survey and our swing ties indicate a separation of about 8'. We would like to modify our request to 8' separation between trenches. We still expect no adverse impact or communication between the trenches.
