Box 196650 Anchorage, AK 99519-6650 RE: Snow Crest View SID, Lot 24A Well and Septic Permit Application To Whom It May Concern: Attached please find the application and supporting documentation to upgrade the septic system on the subject lot. The existing 2 bedroom trailer has been removed from the lot, and it is proposed to move in a 3 bedroom house. The existing septic system consists of a 1000 gallon steel septic tank installed in December 1998, and a concrete seepage pit installed before 1969. It is proposed to excavate the septic tank, inspect it, and use it again if it is competent. The seepage pit will be abandoned in place. The lot is served by a community water system, PWSID 210891, and the Class A well is located within 200 ft of the subject lot. A waiver for a separation distance of 110 ft from the well to the proposed septic system is being requested from the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, concurrent with this permit application. A waiver was previously granted for the existing septic system. The proposed design is based upon a test hole dug on September 24, 2004. No water was encountered when the hole was dug or after 7 days of monitoring. The test hole was dug to a total depth of 20.0 ft and encountered sand and gravel. A percolation test run from 7.0 to 7.5 ft resulted in a rate of less than 1 minute per inch. The native soil is sandy enough to preclude the use of a sand filter. The soil log is attached. Following are the details of the drainfield design. Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 Ref: Septic Tank Upgrade for Lot 10, Snowcrest View Subdivision To whom it may concern: The existing 2 bedroom trailer on the referenced property is served by a Community Class "A" water system and private septic system that consists of a septic tank and a seepage pit type drainfield. The septic tank has been found to be of poor integrity and needs to be upgraded. The construction of the existing seepage pit was not documented due to the fact that it was constructed prior to the 1969 ordinance. The seepage pit has been excavated and a 6 foot tall by 3 foot diameter concrete ring was found. The distribution line from the septic tank was found to enter the concrete ring 5 foot from the bottom. The quantity of gravel around the concrete ring is unknown. An adequacy test was performed and it was determined that the seepage pit is capable of absorbing greater than 300 gallons per day. A test hole was excavated next to the seepage pit to verify separation distances to groundwater and bedrock have been met (see attached). We propose to excavate, pump, crush, and abandon the existing septic tank by burying it on-site; a new 1000 gallon septic tank will be installed in the same area. A foundation cleanout and double cleanouts will be installed. A waiver has been requested from the Department of Environmental Conservation (D.E.C.) concurrently with this permit request for a separation distance waiver of 110 feet from the Class "A" well to the existing seepage pit and the proposed septic tank. Attached is a copy of the soil log which shows that the soils are mostly sand and gravel that transition to black uniform sand. It is our opinion, that the natural soils will act as a sand filter allowing the proper filtration. • The existing seepage pit has been in use prior to 1969 and no contamination has been detected in the well.
