Septic System Design
Impacts to Adjacent Properties
Dear On Site Services Engineer:
The existing absorption bed on the subject lot
has failed
and must
be
replaced. We are therefore requesting a permit
be issued to
upgrade
the
system and install a new absorption trench. The
attached Site Plan shows
the area of the existing bed and the location
of the new
trench.
The
existing bed is not on the property, but an easement exists
allowing
its
placement on the adjacent property.
The testholes placed in the area of the proposed absorption trench
revealed silty gravel with a percolation rate of 13 minutes per inch.
Groundwater seeps were encountered at 12' below the ground surface. We
are therefore proposing placement of a 57' long by 5' wide by 4' effective
depth absorption trench for disposal of septic effluent. 3' of cover will be
placed over the trenches once construction is complete to prevent
freezing. The maximum depth of the trench will be 6' below the ground
surface.
The ground surface of the lot slopes dramatically at a 38% grade from
East to West. No area on the lot has a cross slope less than 25%. Grading
will be required as shown on the attached drawings to meet setback
requirements. The absorption trench will be constructed parallel to the
ground contours consistent with Municipal requirements. We are confident
the trench can be successfully placed on this lot.

South Fork Addition Number 1
Soils Report

V V

Background
The South Fork of Eagle River flows through this
Subdivision in a NNWesterly direction. It enters the
subdivision at an elevation of approximately 1900 ft. msl and
exits at about 1770 ft. msl. The eastern side of the
Subdivision extends well up past tree -line while the western
side remains within the limits of tree -line. Climatic changes
resulting from this higher elevation are more annual
precipitation and a lower mean annual temperature than the
Anchorage area.
This valley is a typical U-shaped valley. A
cross-section would reveal steep slopes, at higher elevations
decreasing to near level lower down. The bottom is cut by the
South Fork and its floodplain.
Soils of this area are derived primarily from colluvial
and glacial deposits, these being random mixtures of silt,
sand and rock. Soil depth varies greatly.
Conclusions:
The enclosed soils tests indicate that Blocks 1, 2, 3 and 4
have soils acceptable for on-site septic systems and therefore
platting of these lots should proceed.
