Ref: REVISIONS to Septic Design for Sw'/., Sw'/4, Se'/,, Nw'/,; T12N, R3W, Section 24
To whom it may concern:
A well and septic permit (SW020471) for the referenced property was issued on December 3,
2003. The house has been mostly constructed and the well has been drilled. The new house and
well locations are shown on the attached revised site plan and design drawings. The owner also
installed a curtain/french drain east of the house in order to divert groundwater around the house
and septic area. It appears that the curtain drain has "dried out" the west half of the lot. A
confirmation test hole labeled TH#5 was excavated on July 21,2003, between TH#3 and TH#4 to
confirm that the groundwater level has decreased. The monitoring tubes for these three test holes
were checked on July 30, 2003, and found all to be dry. Based upon these readings, it is our
opinion that there is no longer a shallow groundwater concern. The septic design was originally
designed to use an Advantex Treatment System. Per the request of the owner, we are now
proposing to use a conventional type septic system. We are proposing that a 1500 gallon S.T.E.P.
tank with dual outlets and a dual pressurized 5 -wide type drainfield be installed. The owner
would like to install both the primary and alternate site in order to insure a long lasting system.
Comments regarding the revised design are summarized as follows:
PRESSURIZED TRENCH DESIGN:
a. Percolation Rate: 1.5 minutes/inch
b. Proposed Application Rate: 1.0 gallons/day/f12
c. Number of Bedrooms: 4
d. Design Flow: 600 gallons per day
e. Minimum Absorption Area: 600 ft2
f. Total Depth: 6 feet (max.)
g. Effective Depth: 4
h. Width: 5 feet
i. Reduction Factor: 0.50

Note: the distribution lines are to 1.25 inch sch. 40 pvc with 1/4 inch diameter holes spaced 23
inches on center (30 holes total in each trench). Only one trench will be operated at a time.
SURFACE WATERS: The outfall of the new curtain drain is over 100 feet from the proposed
septic system.
TOPOGRAPHY: The area for the proposed drainfields is a 1 to 5 percent slope running
approximately east to west; in short, there are no slope concerns.
We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic

ADVANTEXT"' TREATMENT SYSTEM
To whom it may concern:
1. GENERAL: The proposed 4 bedroom home will be served by a private well and septic
system. Four test holes were excavated on the property. We are proposing to design the septic
system around the 30 foot radius of these test hole #3. Due to the limited area around the test
hole and the presence of groundwater over a majority of the property, we are proposing to use an
Advantex treatment system and a 5 -wide trench type drainfield. The well is to be located in the
area shown on the site plan and design drawing.
2. SOILS: See the attached log, which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring,
and the percolation test results.
3. DRAINFIELD APPLICATION RATE: The intent is to install an Advantex Treatment
System that will allow the use of a small drainfield in the area around the 30 foot radius of test
hole #3. The Advantex system has received class III approval and we are going to conservatively
assume an application rate of 4.0 GPD/FT2.
4. TRENCH DESIGN:
a. Percolation Rate: 1.5 minutes/inch
b. Proposed Application Rate: 4.0 gallons/day/ft
c. Number of Bedrooms: 4
d. Design Flow: 600 gallons per day
e. Minimum Absorption Area: 150 R2
f. Total Depth: 4.0 feet (max.)
g. M.O.A. Approved Sand Filter Depth: 2+ feet
h. Effective Depth: 0.5 feet

i. Width: 5 feet
j. Minimum Length: 30 feet long
k. Effective absorption area: 150 ft2
5.ORENCO PACKAGE SYSTEM: The STEP tank with the Advantex Treatment System will
be manufactured by Anchorage Tank & Welding to meet the latest design criteria established by
Orenco Systems, Inc. The point of contact at Anchorage Tank is Lowell McNutt. As with their
standard STEP tank, it is equipped with a high water alarm per M.O.A requirements.
6. SURFACE WATER: There are some intermittent streams to the northwest of the proposed
septic system. All surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed drainfield will be made
subsurface.
7. TOPOGRAPHY: The average topography in the area of the proposed drainfield is a 5%-
10% slope running approximately southeast to northwest. In short there are no slope concerns.
8. CLOSING: I am open to any suggestions from your department that would be an
improvement to the proposed system. I am unaware of any negative impacts that this installation
would impose on adjacent wells, or septic systems. If you have any questions, please call us at

PROPERTY OWNER AGREEMENT FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF AN ON-SITE
WASTEWATER DISPOSAL SYSTEM

Development Services bepartment (DSD) and the property owner(s) of:

This agreement is made for the purpose of maintaining an on-site wastewater disposal system on
the subject property.
The property owners agree to the following:
Submit to the Municipality of Anchorage, on an annual basis, an inspection and operation
statement from a registered professional engineer. This inspection and operation statement shall
verify that the engineer has inspected all effluent and air pumps, timers, and alarms, and that any
deficiencies have been repaired and that the system is functioning as designed.
