Re: Frostad .tubdtvtston
On August_~%t~ 1987 we drilled n testhole'lg'!feet Sou~h-east of the existing
crlb.~-~/hsal was reached at 12 feet B-~ ;'.The hole was dry after one week.
The percolation, rate on the soils was 42 ~inutes'per inch. ' ·
The irround surface"at the testhole was about 1.to'2 feet higher than at ~he
· crib. The rater level in'the crib was higher 'than the bottom of the testhole.
· It'is evident that there ts no g~oundwater .~[f~cttng the system.
· The :second pipe appears to be a reverse cleanout, between the crib and the septic
tank". "The m~asurement of the distances between the, septic tank and the crib are
about the smae as shown on the original Inspection form. There is not enough
'distance for .there to have been two cribs.
A lift station Will probably be needed'for any Upgrades on this lot. This'is
.because the remaining ground ts higher in elevation than the 'existing system.
If you have any questions please let me know. "·

SOILS FCR THE PI~C~OSED F'R~ST~ SUBDIVISION
Enclosed are the results of soil testing~ performed by Alaska
Environmental Control Services~ Inc.~ (AECS)~ on 5 acres in NI/2~
SWI/~, N~/I/~, NWl/#, TI2N, R3W, Section 25, Seward Meridian.
This area lies in the foothills of the Chugach lVbuntains east of
Anchorage~ Alaska. The property slopes to the west with elevation
ranging from 1000 to 1120 feet. The site is adjacent to~ and accessed
from the west by Hillside Drive. Current improvements consist of a
single family house.
Vegetation consists of mixed spruce and birch trees~ with aider
dominating the rno~e open areas.
The soils grade from SILTY SAND (SM) to (]~A~LY SILT ([VL). Bedrock
was found at 10 feet in a testhole in the southwest part of the
property.
DISCUSSION:
Tests were performed' in conjunction with the requirement~ set forth in
"Design Manual for On-Site Wast·water Treatment and Disposal Systems"~
published by the E.P.A. The testholes were dug.by aC asa 450 backhoe
on March 2#~ and 26~ 1986.
The objective of our testing was to determine the soils suitability
for on-site septic systems. The important soils characteristics are
1) SOIL DEFTH (depth to bedrock); 2) DEPTH TO(2~UNDWATER~'and 3)
SOIL PEI~39IJkTION P,A, TE.'
Refer to the Appendix .for individual testhole soil logs.
SHALI.O,V SOIL.'
Testhole three~ located in the southwest part of property~ identified
bedrock at 10 feet. Based on interpretation of vegetation types and
prior experience of the excavator~ we surmise the bedrock.'lies at this'
elevation on the lower part of property in a North-South direction.
Bedrock at 10' along with 15% slope v~uld require an engineer designed
shallow septic system.
SOIL T~,TER:
No groundwater was observed in any of the testholes. Water monitor
tubes were installed in all the holes to facilitate monitoring for
seasonal highwater at a later date.
SOIL ~TION' RATE:
All testholes identified soil with acceptable percolation 'rates.
Values ranged from 153 to 257 square feet per bedroom. It should be
1200 UJest 33rd Au·hue, Suite B · Anch0ra~e, Alaska 99503 ·(907) 561-5040
noted that these soils ratings, although acceptable, will require
allocation of significant areas of the proposed lots for primary
septic systems and replacement areas.
(X:IqO~SIONS:.
Our soil investigation identified suitable soil for septic systems in.
all four testholes. However, because of the general slope of the
entire property is around 15%, trench type absorption systems
installed along contour lines will be required. Bed type systems are
probably excluded because they mist be installed level. Caution is
advised in the development'of building sites, driveways and well sites
so that sufficient area is set aside for a primary and replacement
septic areas. If septic systems are installed at the locations of
testholes I and 2, a lift station may be required, depending upon
placement of the building sites. An engineer designed shallow system'
will be required to overcome the shallow bedrock and slope found at
testhole 3.
Seasonal groundwater rmnitor data will be gathered and added to this
report, AECS plans at least two iTonltor visits.
If you have any questions, please call.
Sincerely,
Denni s Roe

Dear Dave:
This is a report on the results of monitoring for the presents of groundwater
tn test holes performed by AECS. Inc. in March of this year. Results are
tabulated below.
Testhole Number
Date I 2 3 4
April 2, 1986 12' (dry) 8.5' (dry) 12' (dry) 17.5' (dry)
May 2, 1986 13' (water) 8' (dry) ll.5'(dry) 17' (dry)
June 4, 1986 13' (dry) 8' (dry) ll.5'(dry) 17' (dry)
Notes:
All measurements.are referenced to ground surface. Discrepancies between
testhole depths from soil logs and water monitor levels may be due to snow
peak or settling of the ground in and around the investigation.
(1) Testholes I and 2 were completely buried by snow making
exact measurement to ground surface difficult.
(2) Ice may have been present at the time of measurement.
If you have any questions please feel free to call me at 561-5040.
Sincerely,
F. Cords
