In our permit request we indicated that we would conduct a deeper and more through soils
evaluation of the subject property. This has been completed. As a result of this information
we are requesting a change in our original design to take advantage of the new data as
outlined below.
Soils
An additional soils investigation was conducted on October 6, 2003 by Alaska Rim
Engineering, Inc. The approximate test hole locations are located on the attached site plan.
The soils were classified as GM and SM see the attached soil log and perk data. Based on
the percolation test an application rate of .45 gal/day/sft was the correct assumption.
Groundwater was encountered at 16.5 feet. The ground water appears to be deeper as we
move towards the edge of the bluff/hill.
Trench Design
The dwelling proposed is a four-bedroom, with an estimated daily wastewater flow rate of
600 gallons per day. The wastewater application rate from the perk test is 0.45 gal/day/sft.
The required absorption area is 1,333 square feet. Proposed is a deep trench with an
effective depth of 8 -feet and a length of 85 feet. By moving the absorption field toward the

back of the lot the vertical separation distance gets greater and the deep trenches can become
deeper. Enclosed are drawings of the proposed system.

like to start the installing the septic there after.

The owner of the above referenced lot is proposing a four-bedroom singly family residence.
We are requesting a plan review and a permit to install a septic system to serve the proposed
development.
Soils
The developers engineer performed a soils investigation on January 28, 2002. The
approximate location of the test hole is located on the attached site plan. The soils were
classified as silt (ML). The percolation test, with a perk rate of 5 min/inch, indicates the use
of an application rate of 1.2 gal/day/sft. No groundwater was encountered at 12 feet.
We plan to dig an additional test hole to confirm the developer's engineer's soil log and
percolation test. We also plan to monitor for ground water for seven days. Should a change
be required we will contact MOA Onsite Personnel as to the next step.
Trench Design -
The dwelling proposed is a four-bedroom, with an estimated daily wastewater flow rate of
600 gallons per day. The wastewater application rate from the perk test is 1.2 gal/day/sft. I
have used 0.45 gal/day/sft, as my experience in the area indicates a more conservative
approach is justified. The required absorption area is 1,333 square feet. Proposed is two 5 -
foot wide beds with an effective depth of 48 -inches and a length of 70 feet. The flow will be
split with a zable flow splitter. Enclosed are drawings of the proposed system.

Surface Waters
There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed upgrades.
Topography
There is a high bluff with slopes greater than 25% in the back third of the lot.
We do not anticipate any adverse effects on the neighboring, septic systems, reserve areas or
drainage patterns by the installation of the proposed septic system. This subdivision is server
by a community water system.

The Municipality of Anchorage Development Services Department (DSD) Issues Certificates of Health Authority
Approval (HAA) based only upon the representations given in paragraph 4 by an independent professional civil
engineer registered in the State of Alaska. Certificates of Health Authority Approval are required for the transfer of
title (except between spouses) for properties served by a single-family on-site wastewater disposal and/or water
supply system. DSD also issues HAAs upon request to homeowners. Certificates of Health Authority Approval are
valid for 90 days from the date of issue for properties served by a private or Class C well and may be reissued with
new water sample results. (Certificates may be reissued for a period of up to one year with valid water samples.)
Certificates are valid for one year for properties served by Class A or B wells or a public water system. The
Municipality of Anchorage is not responsible for errors or omissions in the professional engineer's work.
