Ref: Proposed Well and Septic System for Lot 11, Block 5, Sky Ranch Estates Subdivision #1
To whom it may concern:
The proposed 3 bedroom house will be by a private well and septic system. Two test holes were
excavated on the property in the area of the proposed septic system. The proposed septic system
will be designed around the 30 foot radii of these test holes. We are proposing that a 1000 gallon
septic tank and a deep trench style drainfield be installed. Comments regarding the proposed
design are summarized as follows:
1. SOILS: See the attached log which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring,
and the percolation test results. It is our opinion that due to the overall appearance of the soils, an
application rate of 0.6 gallons/day/ft?, should be used.
2. TRENCH DESIGN:
a. Percolation Rate: 24 minutes/inch
b. Allowable Application Rate: 0.6 gallons/day/ftZ
c. Number of Bedrooms: 3
d. Design Flow: 450 gallons per day
e. Minimum Absorption Area: 750ft2
f. Total Depth: 11 feet (max.)
g. Effective Depth: 7 feet
h. Width: 2.5 feet
i. Reduction Factor: N/A
j. Minimum Length: 55 feet
k. Effective absorption area = 770 ftZ
3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed
upgrade.

4. TOPOGRAPHY: The area for the proposed septic system has a 5 to 10 percent slope. The
trenches will be installed parallel to slope contours. As can be seen on the attached topography
site plan there is a slope greater than 25 percent approximately 35 feet from the primary site. We
request that the 50 foot setback from this slope be waived to 35 feet. The porosity of the soil
should insure rapid downward migration of the wastewater and minimal lateral migration. Also,
the slope is heavily vegetated. In short, there appears to be minimal risk in granting the requested
waiver.
I am unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic

Mr. Rolf Strickland of the Greater Anchorage Area Borough Department of
Environmental Quality.
A single test hole was put do,~n within the Lot 11 area for the purpose
of defining general subsurface soil conditions for the proposed sanitary
system. Excavation was accomplished with an auger type drilling rig and
the test hole was extended to a total depth of 20.0 feet below ground
surface. One sample was recovered from the test hole and retained for
grain size analysis. The results of ~ais sample are enclosed. The
final log prepared for the test hole has been included in Drawing A-01.
Ground water was encountered in the test hole at a depth of 13.5 feet
below ground surface. This water is a pearched water condition and
should not be considered as a water table.
