Ref: Proposed Septic System for Near Point Knoll S/D; Block 2, Lot 18A
To whom it may concern:
The existing lot is vacant. Per conversations with the owner, he would like to build a 6-
bedroom home (see attached plot plan). There is an existing private well on property that
will be used to serve the proposed structure. In 2002 a design was submitted to and
approved by the MOA for a 4-bedroom home. We are proposing to utilize the existing
testhole data and redesign a 6-bedroom tank and drainfield. We are proposing to install
a new 2000-gallon steel septic tank and deep trench type drainfield. Four (4) testholes
were excavated on the lot and the proposed drainfield is designed around T.H.#3. It
should be noted that a site visit was made by GEG employee David Garness on 6/18/2018
and all four (4) testholes were located. Testhole #1 and #4 appeared to be pinched/non-
fuctional while testholes#3 and #2 went approximately 14.5-15 feet below grade and both
were dry. Comments regarding the design are summarized as follows:
1. SOILS: See the attached soil logs (from MOA records) which shows the soil
classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. As stated on the
2002 design (that was approved), the in-situ soil, visually rated as GM, should act as a
sand filter and a deep trench type system should be allowed to be installed. We ask that
a special provision be issued with the permit requiring that the MOA inspect bottom of
trench to allow for the absence of a sand filter or sieve analysis. We feel as though this is
a unique case in that it was previously approved, however, the new code has been
implemented since that time which would require an sieve analysis.
2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications.
3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface water concerns.
4. TOPOGRAPHY/WAIVER: As can be seen on the attached design drawing, the
average topography around the proposed drainfield is less than 10%. However, there are
slopes greater than 25% less than 50 feet from the proposed drainfield. We are requesting
that your department issue a variance from the required separation of 50 feet down to 35

feet for slopes >25%. Justifications for granting this waiver are as follows:
• This waiver was previously granted for the 2002 design.
• The soil has a high porosity; is likely that vertical migration will take place at a
greater rate than siltier soils.
• The slope is heavily vegetated; it is less probable that effluent would daylight or
erode the steep slopes

If this permit was for a wastewater disposal system, an original as -built inspection report must be sent to
this office for review, approval and documentation. This as -built inspection report must be signed by
the licensed Professional Engineer who inspected the installation of the system. As -built inspection
reports are required to be submitted within 30 days of the completion of the system.
If no system was installed under this permit, and you are still planning to install a well or wastewater
disposal system, a new permit must be obtained from this office. A new permit for a second year may
be issued for a fee of $100.00 if the renewal application is received on or before the expiration date of
the original permit.
When applying for a new permit, the fees are: $400.00 for a wastewater permit and $150.00 for a well
permit.

Ref: Proposed Septic System for Lot 18, Block 2, Near Point Knoll Subdivision
To whom it may concern:
The proposed 5 bedroom house will be served by a private well and septic system. A well has
been drilled on the property at an unknown date. Attached is a well test that was performed by
Aarow Pump & Well Service. Four test holes were excavating on the property. The proposed
septic system will be designed around the 30 foot radii of these test holes. We are proposing that
a 1500 gallon septic tank and also a deep trench type drainfield be installed. Comments regarding
the proposed design are summarized as follows:
1. SOILS: See the attached logs which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring,
and the percolation test results. It is our opinion that due to the overall appearance of the soils, an
application rate of 1.2 gallons/day/fe should be used and that the insitu silty soils should acts as a
sand filter.
2. TRENCH DESIGN:
a. Percolation Rate: <1 minutes/inch
b. Allowable Application Rate: 1.2 gallons/day/fl?
c. Number of Bedrooms: 5
d. Design Flow: 750 gallons per day
e. Minimum Absorption Area: 625 fl?

3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed upgrade.

4. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached topography site plan, the average
topography in the area of the septic system is generally flat. There is a slope that exceeds a 25
percent slope north of the proposed septic system. We request that the required 50 foot setback
from this slope be waived to 35 feet. Given the porosity of the soils and the heavy vegetation on
the slope, there is minimal risk with the granting of this waiver.
I am unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic
