Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519 Subject: Lot 7 McCready Meadows Well & Septic System Permit Request Gentlemen: My firm was contacted to investigate the possibility of installing a new septic system serving this lot. Two test holes were excavated on August 31, 2002 by my company for the subdivision. The soils logs & percolation test results are on file with your department. Ground water was monitored through the seasonal high period of 2002. The ground water stabilized at a depth of 13 feet below the surface. Bedrock was not encountered in either test hole. The lot is 69,347 square feet (1.592 acres) in size. Lot 7 slopes to the northwest at approximately 8 percent. The proposed installation will be located in the western portion of the lot, along the west property line. The proposed well will be located in the eastern portion of the lot, greater than 100 feet from the proposed system and from the neighboring septic systems. The proposed location of the septic system is greater than 100 feet away from surface water, existing neighboring wells, and 25 feet from the water service lines. The surrounding wells are located greater than 100 feet from the proposed installation. The proposed installation will not affect the future development of the surrounding or existing lots. This inspection revealed a nitrate concentration of 5.47 milligrams per liter (mg/L) was reported for the property's well water sample. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established a maximum contaminant level (MCL) of 10.0 mg/L for public drinking water systems. While private wells are not subject to this regulation, EPA standards are based on existing health information and can therefore be used to gauge the relative quality of water from private wells.
