All construction shall be in accordance with:
1. The attached approved design.
2. All requirements specified in Anchorage Municipal code Chapters 15.55 and 15.65 and the State of Alaska
Wastewater Disposal Regulations (18AAC72) and Drinking Water Regulations (18AAC80)
3. The wastewater code requires inspections during the installation. The engineer shall notify the Development
Services Department per AMC 15.65. Provide notification by calling (907) 343-7904 (24/7).
4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather
shall be either:
a. Opened and Closed on the came day, or
b. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing

Design Narrative and Permit Application
Dear Plan Reviewer,
The owners of the above 3-bedroom home would like to upgrade the system to a 4-bedroom system.
The home is on a community water system
SOILS
One test hole was excavated on October 18, 2024, and logged by Charles A. Leet, PE. The test hole
was advanced to a depth of 19-feet. The soils consisted of silty sand. No groundwater was detectable
after required 7-day monitoring, see the attached soil logs.
PERCOLATION TEST
The percolation test was conducted adjacent to the test pit. Weather conditions made obtaining an
accurate percolation test suspect, as the temperature was below freezing. A representative soil sample
was obtained at between 3-foot and 4-foot of the receiving soils for laboratory testing, see attached
gradation test results from Hansen, PE, dated January 21, 2025.
Based on the laboratory test the soil application rate 0.8 gallon/day/square feet was selected, see the
attached soil logs.
TOPOGRAPHY
There are no topographical issues that will be created as a result of this improvement. See the attached
site plan for the topography.
SEPTIC TANK REQUIREMENTS
The existing septic tank is located where the proposed addition is planned.
The existing tank will be decommissioned per UPC and AMC Chapter 15.65.
The new tank will be located outside of the 10-foot building footprint. The new tank will be 1250
gallon tank meeting the AMC Chapter 15.65.

DRAIN FIELD DESIGN
The proposed design flow rate of 600 gallons per day is required for a 4-bedroom home. The prescribed
application rate is 0.8 gallons/ft2. The required area is 750 ft2. Proposed is an 8-foot effective depth
deep trench 48-feet in length; with those dimensions the drainfield will have a total of 768 ft2 of
absorption area. The field will be constructed parallel to the existing ground contours.
REPLACEMENT SYSTEM
The proposed replacement system is parallel to the proposed field location with 16-foot separation.
SURFACE WATERS
There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed system. Drainage arrows on the site plan
indicate the slope and direction of stormwater runoff. (See attached site plan)
WELLS & DRINKING WATER
There are no water wells within 100 feet of the proposed system. The property is served by a community
well.
SURROUNDING PROPERTIES
We do not anticipate any adverse effects on the neighboring septic systems, reserve areas or drainage
patterns by the installation of the proposed wells and septic system.
