Ref: Revision to Well and Septic System Permit Number SWO10429 for
Lot 1, Block 2; Blueberry Hills Subdivision
ADVANTEXT" TREATMENT SYSTEM
To whom it may concern:
GENERAL: A permit (SW010429) was issued on October 11, 2001 and then re -issued on
October 14, 2002 for a well and septic system to serve the proposed 5 bedroom house. The septic
system was designed for a S.T.E.P. tank with a dosing timer and a lined intermittent sand filter
(ISF) with a secondary drainfield. The homeowner has requested for us to redesign the septic
system to utilize an Advantex Treatment System. The following is the design criteria for the
Advantex System:
SOILS: See the attached logs, which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring,
and the percolation test results.
DRAINFIELD APPLICATION RATE: The intent is to install an Advantex Treatment
System that will allow the use of a small drainfield in the area around the 30 foot radii of test
hole 41 and test hole #2. A percolation tests were performed between the depth of 3.5 to 5.0 feet
and found the rates to be <1 minute/inch. We are proposing to use a 2000 gallon steel S.T.E.P.
tank with an AX -20 Advantex Pod which meets a 5 bedroom requirement under the class II
category. The allowable application rate is 4.0 gpd/fI2.

Note: the distribution line is to be 1.25 inch sch. 40 pvc with %4 diameter holes spaced 15 inches
on center (30 holes total).
ORENCO PACKAGE SYSTEM: The STEP tank with the Advantex Treatment System will
be manufactured by Anchorage Tank & Welding to meet the latest design criteria established by
Orenco Systems, Inc. The point of contact at Anchorage Tank is Lowell McNutt. As with their
standard STEP tank, it is equipped with a high water alarm per M.O.A requirements.
SURFACE RATER: There is no surface water within a 100 feet of the proposed septic
system.
TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached detail drawing (page 5 of 5), the septic system
is to be installed on a slope that ranges from 50 to 75 percent slope. We are proposing that a
retaining wall (to be designed by others) be installed 50 feet downhill from the drainfields. This
area is to be filled so that a slope that is less than 25 percent exists at least 35 feet downhill from
the drainfields. We request that the 50 feet setback from a slope that is greater 25 percent be
waived down to 35 feet. The area to be filled is to be performed prior to construction of the
septic system to insure that the slope requirements can be obtained.
CLOSING: I am open to any suggestions from your department that would be an improvement
to the proposed system. I am unaware of any negative impacts that this installation would
impose on adjacen wells, or septic systems. If you have any questions, please call us at 337-

Ref: Proposed Well and Septic System for Lot 1, Block 2, Blueberry Hills Subdivision
(Lined Intermittent Sand Filter - ISF)
To whom it may concern:

The proposed 5 bedroom house will be served by a private well and septic system. We are
proposing that a 2000 gallon S.T.E.P. tank, an innovative Lined Intermittent Sand Filter (ISF)
system and a 5 -wide drainfield, be installed. Comments regarding the proposed upgrade are
summarized as follows:
1. GENERAL: Three test holes were excavated on the property to determine an area suitable
for an on-site septic system. Due to the presence of bedrock and the steep slopes, it is our opinion
that a Lined ISF system, with a 5 wide drainfield is the most viable option.
2. SOILS: Attached are the logs, which show the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring,
and the percolation test results. It is our opinion that due to the overall appearance of the soils, an
application rate of 5.0 gallons/day/ft2 should be used for the proposed Lined ISF effluent.
3. LINED INTERMIITENT SAND FILTER (ISF) DESIGN:
a. Total Depth: 4 feet
b. Width: 18 feet
c. Length: 20 feet
d. Air Supply: Thomas Industries, Model 5070, "Anchorage Tank".
e. Air Supply Line: "Wasteflow" emitterline, 1/2 inch LD, "Anchorage Tank".
f. Sand Material: In accordance with M.O.A. latest standards
g. Pea Gravel: 100% passing 3/8" sieve, less than 20% passing the 1/4" sieve, and
less than I% passing the #8 sieve.
We are proposing to excavate down to a depth of 4 feet maximum, place a minimum of 0.5 feet
of Pea gravel with a 4 inch slotted PVC pipe (slotted pipe to be bedded in clean sewer drainrock)

installed midway in the layer. On top of the Pea gravel, 0.5 feet of M.O.A. approved sand will be
placed, then will be installed the air supply line and then cover it with 1.5 feet of sand. On top of
the sand, we will place 6 inches of 3/8 inch pea gravel, with the pressure laterals midway in the
layer. We will use a conventional lift station (Anchorage Tank), equipped with a programmable
timer so that flow can be intermittently dosed to the ISF.
4. DRAINFIELD DESIGN:
a. Percolation Rate: 6.0 minutes/inch
b. Allowable Application Rate of Lined ISF Effluent: 5 gallons/day/ft2
c. Number of Bedrooms: 5
d. Design Flow: 750 gallons per day
e. Minimum Absorption Area: 150 ft2
f. Total Depth: 3.0 to 3.5 feet maximum (remove all organics)
g. M.O.A. Approved Sand Filter: 2+ feet
h. Effective Depth Below Distribution Line: 0.5 feet
i. Width: 5 feet
j. Length: 30 feet
k. Effective Absorption Area: 150 ft2
5. SURFACE WATERS: There is no surface water within a 100 -foot of the proposed septic
system upgrade.
6. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached detail drawing (page 5 of 5), the proposed
septic system is to be installed on a slope that ranges from 50 to 75 percent slope. We are
porposing that a retaining wall (to be designed by others) be installed 50 feet downhill from the
drainfields. This area is to be filled so that a slope that is less than 25 percent exists at least 35
feet downhill from the drainfields. We request that the 50 feet setback from a slope that is greater
25 percent be waived down to 35 feet. The area to be filled is to be performed prior to
construction of the septic system to insure that the slope requirements can be obtained.
7. MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION PRACTICES: The materials used, and the
construction practices will comply with the MOA's "Intermittent Sand Filter Design, Installation
& Maintenance Manual". The contractor should read this document prior to construction.
Copies are available at the Municipal Onsite Services office (4700 South Bragaw Street).
8. CLOSING: I am open to any suggestions from your department, which would be an
improvement to the proposed design. I am unaware of any adverse impacts this installation
