Box 2749 Palmer, Alaska 99645 The owner of the above referenced lot is proposing to construct a 3 -bedroom single family dwelling (see attached Site Plan). The proposed dwelling is to be served by an onsite private well and a private septic system. With this letter we are requesting plan review and a permit to drill a private well and install an onsite septic system to serve the proposed development. DESIGN SUMMARY SEPTIC SYSTEM Soils A test hole (AKTH#1) was excavated on November 12, 2004, a percolation test was conducted. A second test hole (AKTH#2) was excavated and a groundwater monitor tube (GWMT) installed. At that time a temporary datum was set in a tree adjacent to the proposed septic system, with an elevation of 100.00 feet. The elevation of the bottom of the test hole and the GWMT is 88.95 feet. Groundwater was detected at 89.03 feet. The monitor tube was probed on December 7, 2004, and the elevation of the groundwater was unchanged. The attached Site Plan shows the location of the test hole and GWMT. The soils in AKTH#1 were classified in the field as GW, consisting predominantly of clean loose sandy gravel. The percolation test, conducted at 4 feet below grade, yielded a soil percolation rate of less than 1 minute per inch (see attached Soil Log — Percolation Test). A percolation rate faster than 1 minute per inch requires the addition of filter material to be installed beneath the sewer rock. According to MOA Code 15.65.060(D), the filter material will be acquired from an approved source and will be no less than 2 feet. The proposed drainfield will be designed around the 30 -feet radius of the test hole. A separation distance of 6 feet from the groundwater level will be applied. There are no slopes greater than 25% within 50 feet of the proposed location of the septic system. Surface Water There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed septic system. PRIVATE WATER WELL k 7Illl The location of the proposed well is shown on the attached site plan. The onsite septic system and all other potential sources of contamination are outside of the 100 -feet well protection radius. The well will be sited, drilled, and completed in accordance with standards and provisions in chapters 15.55 and 15.65 of the MOA code for water wells, and 18 AAC 80 and 72. Surrounding Properties This property and surrounding properties are served by onsite septic systems and private wells. According to MOA Code 15.55.050 (13)(1)(e), (g), and (h), all wells within 50 feet of the proposed well, and, all sources of contamination (septics, etc), and all animal enclosures within 200 feet of the proposed well are noted on the site plan. There are no water wells within 50 feet of the proposed well location. We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic systems. Development on this lot will not preclude development of wells and septic systems on neighboring lots in the future.
