The owner of the property has requested the system be designed to accommodate a five-bedroom home. We are submitting this design and permit application for the construction of a new septic system. The attached site plan identifies the location of the home and the existing well along with the existing and proposed septic locations. No conflicts exist between the proposed system and any other well or septic system on this or adjacent lots. The ground surface on the lot slopes to the northeast, but is flat in the area of the absorption system. There are no slopes greater than 25% within 50 feet downslope of the proposed site. Topographic contours are shown on the site plan showing the grade and direction of flow. Storm water drainage will not impact this septic system. The new trenches will be constructed parallel to the slope as much as possible. Wells on this and adjacent lots are shown. The new system will be a minimum of 100’ from all wells and surface water, and more than 5’ away from the septic tank or any deck/stair supports. WELL IMPACT The well location was selected based on a compatible location to allow for practical locations for wells and septic systems on the surrounding lots. It appears that the well will have a minimal impact on the surrounding area aquifer due to the large size lots west and south of the subject property. SEPTIC SYSTEM IMPACT The impact of the septic system should be very minimal because no ground water was encountered down to an impervious bedrock 6' below the bottom of the proposed system. To whom it may concern: The subject lot has a 4 bedroom house on it which is served by a private well and septic system. The results of the field investigation and adequacy tests are summarized as follows: A. NVELL: The static water level on 4/27/2005 was 74 below top of casing (BTC). Water was pumped from the well at a rate of 6.2 gpm for a total of 98 minutes (611 gallons). This caused the level to drop 19 feet BTC, to 93 feet BTC. Based upon this data, the well will continuously produce about 5.9 gallons per minute. Based upon this data it was determined that the capacity of the well exceeds the Municipal flow requirements for a 4 bedroom house (0.42 gallons per minute). B. SEPTIC SYSTEM ADEQUACY TEST: The drainfield is a 3 foot wide trench, which is 80.5 feet long, and has an effective depth of 4.7 feet. During our site evaluation we noted that the monitoring tube extended approximately 21.16 feet below the ground surface. Elevation shots were performed and a difference of 8.63 feet was found between the bottom of the monitoring tube and cleanout. In August of 2000 the monitoring tube was excavated and was found to have an extreme angle/bow in it making appear that the monitoring tube is 3.93 feet too deep. Prior to starting the adequacy test, the liquid level in the monitoring tube was within 24 inches of the invert. A total of 602 gallons of water was added to the drainfield which caused a rise of 31 inches (cleanout had 6 inches of water in it). The water was then shutoff and the liquid level was checked approximately 938 minutes later and found to have dropped 14 inches. Based upon this data the drainfield had absorbed approximately 271 gallons in 938 minutes. An additional 278 gallons of water was then added to the drainfield which caused a rise of 14 inches (cleanout had 6 inches of water in it). The liquid level was then checked approximately 132 minutes later and found to have dropped 10 inches. Based upon this data the drainfield had absorbed approximately 198 gallons in 132 minutes, which corresponds 2160 gallons per day. It appears that the drainfield will not take a large surge load but, based upon this data, it was determined that the absorption rate of the trench exceeds 600 gallons per day, as required for a 4 bedroom house. During our site evaluation we noted that the monitoring tube extended to a depth of approximately twenty-two feet (actually 21.83 feet) below the top of the monitoring tube pipe. According to the property owner a considerable amount of fill was placed in this area after the septic system was installed. AWWC, Inc. shot the elevation in the trench clean-out and the bottom of the monitoring tube (shot the top of each pipe and then measured down them with a steel tape), and found the difference to be 8.23 feet. According to MOA records the effective depth of the drainrock is 4.7 feet. In short, it appeared that the monitoring tube extends 3.5 feet deeper than the MOA records indicate, however, this may not actually be the case ............ based upon the following facts: Upon our initial inspection, we could not take reading readings down the monitoring tube because it was kinked. An excavator (Monte Acheson) was retained by the property owner, to repair the pipe. We were called out on site during the repair, after the pipe was exposed down to the kink. It could be seen that the monitoring tube was at an extreme angle coming out of the ground. Because of this angle, it is likely that the vertical depth is significantly less than what was measured. In short, the monitoring tube may be sitting on the bottom of the trench, but the extreme angle/bow in the pipe creates the perception that it goes much deeper.
