Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 Subject: Upgrade On-site Sewer and Waiver to Foundation — W.G. Pippel S/D, Block 8, Lot 2 Gentlemen: The owner has requested we proceed forward to obtain a septic permit to upgrade the existing sewer system. The original system that was installed with the house was constructed on an adjacent lot, which at the time of construction was owned by the previous owner. Subsequently the owner sold the subject property but retained ownership of the lot with the septic system. This lot also was sold to a third party. In order for the present owner to complete the sale of his property he is attempting to construct the septic system on his lot. In addition to the above we are requesting a waiver to foundation for the proposed field which we feel is justified for the following reasons: • We have conducted an on-site investigation and have determined that the proposed field will be below the footings of the structure. • The foundation is for a garage which is elevated and the foundation is filled so as any migration of effluent would not impact the structure. • There are no occupants of the structure due to its usage. • The surrounding material is clean sand which will limit the lateral migration of effluent. A testhole was dug and a percolation test was conducted on April 12, 1999. The results of these tests are attached. The general slope of this lot is from south to north at a grade of approximately 2-5%. We have designed our system utilizing the percolation rate of 3 min./inch for the five -bedroom house, which is existing on this lot. The lot is served by an existing individual well., although both public water and sewer are nearby. We propose to install a 2' wide deep trench. The soils consistently percolate at 3 min./inch and the material appears to be uniform per the logs. Water was not encountered during the excavation or monitoring. There are no public or private wells within 200' of our proposed system location Subject: Upgrade On-site Sewer and Waiver to Foundation — W.C.
