The owner is proposing to build a 4 bedroom house that will be served by a private well and septic system. We are proposing to install a 1250 gallon septic tank and a 5 wide type drainfield. Attached are a site plan and a design drawing showing the proposed septic system. Three test holes were excavated on the property. The drainfield will be designed around the 30 foot radius of test hole #3. Comments regarding the design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: See the attached logs which show the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. 2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications. 3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface water concerns. 4. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached topography drawing, the area around the proposed drainfield is 5 to 10 percent slopes running northeast to southwest. In short, there are no slope concerns. 5. WAIVER OF SAND FILTER: We request that your department waive the requirement of the installation of 2 feet of MOA approved sand. We are proposing to use the insitu sandy soils as a sand filter. We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic systems. We are proposing to use the insitu sandy soils as a sand filter. The following is justifications for the waiver; • The MOA initially approved this installation (SW 030063) without a sand filter. • The soil log (TH#3) indicated there is increased sand content at a depth of 9.0 feet in the test hole. • ADEC allows for a waiver of the sand filter requirement on a case-by-case basis. • It is our opinion that the installation of a sand filter (which also perks faster than 1 minute per inch) will not add any additional treatment than the native insitu soil.
