Box 196650 Anchorage, AK 99519-6650 RE: Valli Vue Estates #2, Block 2, Lot 3 Proposed Septic System Upgrade To Whom It May Concern: Attached please find the application and supporting documentation to upgrade the septic system for the referenced 3 bedroom house. The original septic system was installed in 1973, with upgrades in 1987 and 1993. The drainfield is now surcharged and is proposed to be abandoned in place, because it is too close to the water line. The existing 1250 gal steel septic tank was installed in 1993. It is proposed to be inspected and retained, if in good condition. A 500 gallon steel lift station is proposed. If the septic tank is not in good condition, it will be replaced with a 1250 gallon STEP tank. The proposed design is based upon a test hole dug by James Williams, P.E. of Alaska Water and Wastewater Consultants on August 25, 1998. The hole was dug to 15 ft with water encountered at 11 ft. After a 7 day monitoring period, the water stabilized at 11.5. The proposed drainfield will be installed in a sand layer between 2 ft and 6 ft, providing a 5 ft separation to the high ground water measurement. A percolation test between 4.5 ft and 5 ft resulted in a rate of 2.9 minutes per inch. An application rate of 1.2 gpd/ff is used in the design. The soil log is attached. To whom it may concern: The existing 3 bedroom house is served by a private septic system and by public/community water. The existing seepage pit will not pass an adequacy test and must be upgraded prior to the sale of the house. A test hole was excavated to the south of the existing septic system. We request you issue a 2 foot lot line waiver from the west property line to the proposed drainfield and the proposed 500 gallon lift station. Comments regarding the proposed upgrade design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: Attached is the log which shows the soil profile and the percolation test result. The soils below the organics/fill is a SW material with some ML lenses to a depth of 11 feet. At 11 feet the soils transition to a SM/GM material to a depth of 15 feet (bottom of test hole). Groundwater was encountered during the excavation of the test hole at 11 feet. One soil percolation test was performed at 4.5 to 5.0 feet which perked out at a rate of 2.9 minutelinch. 2. TRENCH DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: 2.9 minutestinch b. Allowable Application Rate: 1.2 gallons/day/ft2 c. Number of Bedrooms: 3 d. Design Flow: 450 gallons per day e.
