Ref: Septic Upgrade Design for Lot 19, Block 6, Thunderbird Heights Subdivision
To whom it may concern:
The existing 3 bedroom house is served by a community water system and private septic system
Our client would like to upgrade his septic system Comments regarding the proposed design are
summarized as follows:
1. SOILS: Two test holes were excavated and two percolation tests were performed in the test
holes. Test hole 91 was found to be marginal for a septic upgrade site. The 30 foot radius around
test hole 42 will be used the proposed septic upgrade. The soils in test hole #2 below the organics
is a SM/GW material to a depth of 8 feet. At 8 feet, the soils transition to a SP/SW material to a
depth of 17 feet (bottom of test hole). A percolation test was performed between 5 feet and 6
feet, and found the percolation rate was <l minute/'inch. It is our opinions that the insitu sand that
is below 8 feet will act as a sand filter.
2. TRENCH (PRESSURIZED) DESIGN:
a. Percolation Rates: <1 minutes/inch
b. Allowable Application Rate: 1.2 gallons/day/ft2
c. Number of Bedrooms: 3
d. Design Flow: 450 gallons per day
e. Minimum Absorption Area: 375 ft2
f. Maximum Total Depth: 7 feet (on uphill side)
g. Effective Depth: 4 feet
IL Width: 5 feet
i. Reduction Factor = 0.50
j. Minimum Length: 40 feet
k. Effective absorption area = 400 112 (375 ft2 OK)
The pressurized distribution line is to be 1.25 inch schedule 40 PVC pipe with 1/4 inch diameter
hole spaced 2 feet on center (hole faced downward).
3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed
upgrade.
4. TOPOGRAPHY AND WAIVER REQUEST: As can be seen on the design, the slopes in
the area of the proposed septic system are a 3% to 5% slope running from approximately east to
west. There is a slope greater than 25% approximately 20 feet to 30 feet west of test hole #2. We
request that your department issue a waiver to install the proposed trench 35 feet from the top of
the slope. The trench is to be installed parallel to the slope contours.
We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic

100 FEET FOR A PRIVATE WELL OR 150 TO 200 FEET FROM A PUBLIC WELL DEPENDING
UPON THE TYPE OF PUBLIC WELL.
MINIMUM DISTANCE FROM A PRIVATE WELL TO A PRIVATE SEWER LINE IS 25 FEET AND
TO A COMMUNITY SEWER LINE IS 75 FEET.
OTHER. REQUIREMENTS MAY APPLY. SPECIFICATIONS AND CONSTRUCTION DIAGRAMS ARE
AVAILABLE TO INSURE PROPER INSTALLATION.
