Septic System Design and Permit Application
Impacts to Adjacent Properties
Dear Onsite Services Engineer:
I
The existing absorption system on the subject lot has failed and must be upgraded. In
addition, a new well is required to serve the one -bedroom mobile home currently on the
lot. We are therefore requesting a permit be issued for the new well and the upgrade of
the septic system to accommodate a future four-bedroom home on the lot., The
attached Site Plan and backup documentation identify the location and configuration of
the proposed septic systems. The existing septic tank will be pumped, crushed and
backfilled with sand. The absorption pit will be crushed and backfilled with sand. Also
identified on the plans are the locations of the proposed well. No conflicts exist
between the proposed septic system and the wells on adjacent lots. Drainage arrows
are shown indicating the current drainage patterns. The drainage patterns i ill be
maintained after construction.
The test holes placed on the lot at the location of the new absorption trenches indicated
silty gravel with some sand (GM). The percolation rate was determined to be 7-12
minutes per inch. We are proposing to construct a 1,250 gallon septic tank and a 63'
long by 3' wide absorption trench with 6' of gravel beneath the distribution pipe. The
distribution pipe in the trench will be placed at 6' below the surface with the total depth
at 12'. The test holes were placed to 20' below the surface and no groundwater was
encountered. None has developed over the past two months since the test holes were
placed.
The ground surface on the lot slopes slightly to the north at various grades. A cut slope
occurs directly above the location of the new absorption trench and I drops
approximately 5'. The ground then flattens out for nears 60' before again dropping at a

steep slope. Placing the distribution pipe 6' below the ground will provide sufficient
separation distance between the slope and the trench sidewall. A minimum of 100' will
be maintained between all components of the septic system and the proposed well and
from any surface water in the area.

system is constructed in accordance with our design the following statements
The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on theiwells
in the area or those to be constructed in the future.
The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on existing
septic systems in the area or those to be constructed in the future.
i
The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on reserve
space, either surface or subsurface, on any lots located in the area.
The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on drainage
patterns in the area. The current drainage pattern will be maintained.
Sincerely,
Michael E. Anderson, P.E.
