This waiver is justified with the tighter, silty soils that shows any potential effluent transference or interaction between the existing and new field will be marginal or nonexistence at a 17'+ separation. The 17'+ separation and mitigating factors of soil type justify the issuance of the waiver and indicate no ill effect on the functionality of these trenches. We propose to install one deep trench and 1500-gallon HDPE STEP tank to serve the existing 4-bedroom residence. The design is based on the recent test hole conducted on November 4, 2021. No groundwater was observed at test hole excavation or monitoring. The existing tank has a waiver of 82’ from the well on the lot and we request continuance of this waiver. Continuance of this waiver is justified with the improved HDPE tank material, the well is on the opposite side of the house on a slightly elevated area that would prevent effluent at grade running directly towards it, the run at grade from the proposed tank to well is over 100’and there have been no known issues regarding this encroachment. The slopes are moderate at 3-10% at the proposed upgrade location. The lot and area are served by private water. The design will not impact any of the neighboring properties. Apparently this well was not considered during a Department inspection on August 21, 1984. A site visit, conducted on December 3, 1985, by John Kennedy and I revealed that the orientation of the leachfield as shown in the inspection report(August 21, 1984) was incorrect. Please see the corrected version enclosed. I have evaluated the separation distance involved between the well on Lot 1 and the septic system on Lot 2 in order to determine if a waiver of these separation distances would be appropriate in this case. Well logs and soil tests in the area were examined. Because the water table is relatively deep and protected by layers of silt and other slowly permeable strata, waivers to the required separation distances were granted. These waiver evaluations were performed using the State of Department of Environmental Conservation guidelines. Waivers for the separation distance between the well and septic tank and the well and absorption bed were granted to 84 and 90 feet respectively. Please note that the State had previously granted a waiver to 82 feet for the distance between the well on Lot i and the septic tank on Lot 1. It was found that the well and the septic system are adequate to meet the required occupancy. I was unable to find a well log or an as -built of the septic system in the DHEP files. However, Lee Reid was able to ascertain that the system was constructed in general accordance with the Permit, and has shown the details of the underground portions of the system in the attached letter and sketch,' dated April 19, 1984. My inspection of the above ground portions of the system is consistant with Lee's letter. Isaac's Pumping Service also found the tank to be 1250 gallons. A waiver is requested since the septic tank is 82 feet from the well, and the cleanout for the drainfield is one oo ,away from the property line. The static water level in the well is 78 feet. well logs from nearby wells (enclosed) show variable layers of permeable and impermeable soils above the water table. The ground slopes from east to west at about a 108 slope. Pollutants from a possibly leaking septic tank would be filtered by about 70 vertical feet of soil. Any impermeable layers would tend to increase the horizontal travel and provide further filtration. A waiver of the separation distance between the' well and septic tank is therefore recommended. I Mr. Keith Bandt Page Two April 20, 1984 The abutting lot to the south is vacant. Its dimensions are 145 ft. x 300 ft., providing ample clearance for meeting separation distances. He recalls being at the job and laying out how the system was to have been installed. He has drawn a sketch of the locations of the system as it was to have been in place Larry Montgomery went to the lot to check the tank size and to probe the depth of the system. This office was on the subject property on April 18, 1984. The tank standpipes were separated by 7 feet, 4 inches (center oflpipe to center of pipe). The maximum size of a 1000 gallon Creer tank) is 96 inches (8 feet). It is very unlikely that a 1000 gallon septic tank could achieve this much separation between the standpipes. Both standpipes were also probed and found to contain fluid. A metal detector was used to locate the perimeters of the septic tank, and to mark the outline of the tank. The septic tank is situated on a slope, such that the second compartment has more backfill overlit than the first compartment. Cast iron solid pipe was used from the foundation to the septic tank, and from the tank to the field. The metal detector could easily outline the perimeter of the septic tank (inlet compartment), but only one 'source' was detected on thee, outlet portion. The distance was measured at 10 feet, the size of,a Greer 1250 gallon septic tank. The standpipe at the end of the leach was probed and found to extend 13.5-14.5 feet below the ground. This would indicate a leach aiea with an extensive gravel depth. The permit was issued for a trencti design, maximum gravel depth of 11 feet with a total depth of 16 feet.1 1200 Wtst 334 Autnue. We were able to locate the lot line from the subdivision plat and the lots that are directly across Bainbridge Street. In conflict of the information that was given to you by Stan Brust, the standpipe of the sewer system is at least 17 feet from the lot line. Since we were measuring with standard 100' tape we think that our margin of error can not be more than plus or minus 1 foot.
