(Rev. 12/oo) t L11" Eberle Engineering services WELL AND SEPTIC SYSTEM APPLICATION NARRATIVE LEGAL: Lot 3, Blk 3, Juniper Valley Subdivision -Section 33, TUN, RiE, SM Sunday, October 5, 2003 IMPACTS TO ADJACENT PROPERTIES The location and design of this wastewater system Is expected to have no impact on adjacent properties. There are no wells or surface waters within 100 feet of this proposed design. The nearest existing septic system on neighboring properties Is to the east on adjacent Lot 4, Block 3 and lies approximately 70 feet from the proposed system. Other neighboring systems and welts are shown on the plot plan drawings. The design location causes no Impact on reserve areas on neighboring lots. There are no known curtain drains. TOPOGRAPHY Juniper Valley Subdivision consists of single family homes with rural zoning located about 10 miles southeast of the main population of the town of Eagle River. Lot 3 Block 3 slopes generally south from 25 to 30% at the northernmost 100 feet of the lot and 20 to 25% southerly slope for the remainder. The subdivision Is developed with electricity, phone, and natural gas. LOCAL WATER LEVEL Two 16 -foot deep soils -investigation pits were dug on site July 19, 2003 and a standpipe was Inserted in each pit to that excavated depth for monitoring ground water. The pits were dry at the time of excavation. The standpipes were sounded for ground water a week later. No groundwater was sounded in the upper standpipe, that to the northwest of the other. The lower standpipe sounded grourxiwater at a depth of 13 feet below ground surface at that time, following a week of heavy rains. On October 4, 2003, also following a week of heavy rains, no water was sounded in either standpipe. Proposed design digging depth is 5 feet above the sounded ground water depth a week after digging the pits. PERCOLATION TESTS AND SOILS The soil immediately underlying the 6 -Inches thick surface organic layer to a depth of 5 feet below ground surface (BGS) consists of brown sand and gravel, trace to little silt, and occasional cobbles, classified as SP to SP -SM. From 5 to 15 feet BGS the soil consists of brown -to -gray sand with gravel, little silt and occasional cobbles, SP -SM. Two Failing Head percolation tests were performed In accordance with Alaska DEC specifications In the holes Indicated on the attached sheets. The soils in the upper formation percolated in the 1 to 5 minutes per Inch range, and the lower formation percolation test was slower, 12 minutes per Inch. The proposed septic trench gravel depth is shared between the two accepting soil layers; the more -conservative lower formation percolation rate was used as the design rate. The total depth of the trench excavation is not to exceed 8.0' at any point. 4. The effluent lines within the trench shall be laid level within 0.03'. 5. The sewer rock gravel is to be covered with typar fabric material if not Insulated. 6. Soil or combination of soil and extruded board Insulation to a depth of 3' or equivalent is to be placed over the trenches. 7. The area over the trench Is to be finish graded to prevent ponding of surface water runoff. 8. The septic tank and leach field must not be closer than 100' to any existing private well, 150' to any Class "C" well or 200 feet to any community well.
