The existing septic system consists of a 1000 gallon septic tank and a deep trench type drainfield. The existing septic system is in a state of failure and must be upgraded. A test hole was excavated west of the existing septic system in the area of the proposed septic upgrade. The septic system will be designed around the 30 foot radius of this test hole. We are proposing that a new 1250 gallon septic tank and a dual deep trench type drainfield be installed. Comments regarding the design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: See the attached log which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. 2. TRENCH DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: 8 minutes/inch b. Allowable Application Rate: 0.8 gallons/day/112 c. Number of Bedrooms: 4 d. Design Flow: 600 gallons per day e. Minimum Absorption Area: 750 it2 f. Total Depth: 9.5 feet (max.) g. It is our opinion that this will produce sufficient quantities to meet the municipal and state requirements for this three-bedroom residence. The mitigation factors involved which support the issuance of the waiver, are as follows: ENGINEERING STUDIES 1. The horizontal separation distance from the well to the septic tank is 95 feet. ANDREPORTS Five percent of the required separation distance is requested to be waived. 2. The samples taken from the well located on the referenced property indicated WELLINSPECTION 5.38 mg/L of nitrate and 0 colonies per 100 ml. of bacteria. a FUDW TEST 3. The referenced lot is on a 20% slope away from the well head towards the septic tank. The house is also located between the well and the septic tank. This would SITE PLANS prevent any surfacing effluent from reaching the well head. 4. From the well log on the referenced property we can see that the well depth is 400 feet. The static water level was reported to be 170 feet. The distance between the ROADDESIGN tank and the water table exceeds 160 feet. 5. The soils on the well log for the referenced lot indicate clay/gravel and SOILTEST sand/gravel between the ground surface and the aquifer. Also attached are neighboring well logs. PE,COtATION 6. The worst case hydraulic gradient is -7% (See attached surrounding well logs). TEST 7. The well casing was examined and found to be equipped with an adequate sanitary seal and all wires were in conduit. The ground around the well casing adequately sloped away from the well. At the same time this inspection was performed, a water sample was taken from the hose bib at the front of the house and submitted to Chemical and Geological Laboratories of Alaska for coliform bacteria analysis.
