Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 Ref: Proposed Well Location and Septic System for Mountain Park Estates, Lot 8, Block 12 To whom it may concern: The reference property is currently undeveloped. The owner wishes to build a 3 bedroom house with and on-site septic system and a private well. Two test holes were excavated on the property and the soils are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: Test holes #1 and #2 were excavated on November 30, 1998 and no groundwater was encountered in either hole. Test hole #1 had approximately 1.5 feet of organics and loam at the surface of the test hole followed by ML with some SM/SW pockets throughout to a depth of 17' (bottom of test hole). The soils in the upper 5 feet of the test hole appeared to be much denser than the soils beneath 5 feet deep. Two perk tests were run in test hole #1 at depths of 3.5 feet and 7 feet. The soils at 3.5' deep perked at 120 min./inch and the soils at 7' deep perked at 1 min./inch. It is our opinion that the perk test at 7 feet deep was in a SM/SW pocket and is not truly representative of the overall soil absorption. Test hole #2 was excavated to a depth of 16 feet and the soils were found to be very similar to those encountered in test hole #1. Again, two perk tests were run at depths of 3 feet and 7 feet. The shallower bench perked at a rate greater than 120 min./inch and the deeper perk absorbed water at a rate of 40 min./inch. It appears that the upper 5 feet of both test holes have soils that are much denser than the soils below. It is our intent to install the drainfields below these dense soils. 2. TRENCH DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: 120, 1, 120+,40 minutes/inch b. Allowable Application Rate: 0.45 gallons/day/ft2 c. Number of Bedrooms: 3 d. Design Flow: 450 gallons per day e. Minimum Absorption Area: 1000 ft2 f. Total Depth: 9 feet g. Effective Depth: 4 feet It. Width: 5.0 feet i. Reduction Factor: .50 i. Length: 2 @ 50' (100' total) j Effective absorption area = 1000 ft2 3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed upgrade. 4. TOPOGRAPHY: The area where the proposed trenches are to go gradually slopes from east to west at approximately 5% to 10% (see attached topography drawing). In short, there are no slope concerns. I am unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic systems. If you have any questions, please contact me at 337-6179, or 244-9612. Thank you for your assistance. / In JeffrJyJA.J($amcss, P.E., M.S. Name of Firm ALASKA WATER & WASTEWATER CONSULTANTS, INC. Address 6901 DEBARR ROAD, SUITE 2B • ANCHORAGE, AK 99504 Engineer's Printed Name JEFFREY A. GARNESS, P.E. Engineer's Comments: In conducting this evaluation, AKW WC, Inc. attempted to provide a thorough, conscientious engineering analysis of the system in accordance with ADEC and MOA DSD Guidelines & Regulations. The reported results described the performance of the system under the conditions encountered at the time of the test, and separation distances measured to readily identifiable features. The operational life of all wells and septic systems depend on the local soils condition, groundwater levels that may fluctuate during the year, and the water usage of the family being served by the system. These conditions are outside the control of the evaluator of the system. Satisfactory test results do not guarantee future performance of the system, nor do they guarantee that there are no hidden defects or encroachments. AKW WC, Inc. can therefore not provide any warranty or future estimate of how long the system will continue to meet the operational requirements of the ADEC or MOA DSD. The content of this report is for the sole benefit of the ownerlisted above. Any reliance upon or use of this report by any other person or party is not authorized, nor will it confer any legal right whatsoever. 5. DSD SIGNATURE ✓ Approved for bedrooms. Disapproved.
