A permit for a new well and septic system was originally issued on this lot in 2007. We are therefore requesting the permit be reissued for the construction of a new well and septic system in the same location to accommodate the home. The attached Site Plan and backup documentation identify the location and configuration of the proposed well and septic system along with the alternate site. No existing wells or septic systems are closer than 100' from the proposed septic system. Wells on the adjacent lots are shown on the Site Plan. Drainage arrows are shown on the site plan showing the grade and direction of flow on the lot. The drainage pattern will not be changed as a result of this project. - The test holes placed on the lot and utilized in the 2007 permit in the area of the absorption trench and alternate site indicated silty gravel (GM) material with some silt. The percolation rate of the soil at the primary site was determined to be from 23 minutes per inch. No groundwater was found during the placement of the test hole and none was noted during the monitoring period. An application rate of .6 gallons per day per square foot was used in the design of the absorption system. We are proposing to place a new 1,000 -gallon septic tank and 2-32' long by 3' wide by 6' effective depth absorption trenches to treat and dispose of the effluent generated in the house. The elevation of the distribution line in the absorption trench will be 3.5' below the surface and the total depth will be 9.5'. The alternate site will be near Test Hole No. 2 and consist of an Advantex Treatment System with a 15' wide by 20' long absorption bed. The bottom of the bed will be 4' below the surface. A minimum of 3' of fill or 2" of insulation and 2' of fill will be placed over the absorption trench and 4' over the septic tank. Lot 1278, Kristas Subdivision February 22, 2012 Page Two The ground surface on the lot in the area of the absorption trenches slopes to the southeast at a grade of 10%. The new trenches will be constructed parallel with the slope as much as possible in conformance with Municipal requirements. The new septic system will be constructed a minimum of 100' from all wells and any surface water and 10' from the proposed and existing water services in the area. If the system is constructed in accordance with our design the following statements apply: 1. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on the wells in the area or those to be constructed in the future. 2. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on existing septic systems in the area or those to be constructed in the future. 3. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on reserve space, either surface or subsurface, on any lots located in the area. 4. On April 25, 2007, an inspection was conducted on the site, consisting of approximately 45,000 square feet, which is located on Tarika Avenue in North Birchwood. The inspection revealed that the property was average treed, with spruce being predominate and some birch and poplar present. Two perc tests were performed on April 27, 2007, (see attached soil logs). Test hole #1 was dug to a depth of 15-1/2'. No ground water was observed in Test Hole #1 after monitoring. The leach field will be placed to follow the contour lines of the lot located in the area of Test dole #1. It is proposed to use two 3' wide x 6' E.D. x 35' long trenchs, and a new 1000 gallon tank for the future 3 -bedroom residence. Test hole #2 was dug to a depth of 17'. The area of Test Hole #2 is an alternate site for future use; however, Test Hole #2 had water present at a depth of 9' 11" from ground level after monitoring. On-site observation and physical survey show that a 100' well radius encroaches onto the property from two adjacent properties (see attached septic system plan design). This resulted in a narrow corridor in which the system can be placed; therefore, two 35' long trenches will be installed. The proposed system will have no measurable impact on surface or sub -surface drainage, or on drainage from adjacent lots. It appears that there is no potential for contamination of adjacent water wells or streams from known sources. Also, the proposed development will not prohibit future upgrades of any neighboring lots. Attached please find proposed design drawings for the deep trench system. The legal description of the western neighboring property is Kristas Lot 127A. I am applying to request a waiver for the septic tank to well separation distances. The following justifications are provided for your consideration. When reviewing the documentation for Kristas Lot 127A, there is no well log present. There is a record of one water sampling completed in 1986 and the results were 'satisfactory'. A Health Authority Approval in 1986 described that the well was drilled in 1973, that it is 54' deep and cased to 33'. The pump was set at an elevation of 31'. Static water level is 19'. Let us review the well log for the subject property to better understand the soils below these properties. In March 2012, a 280' deep well was drilled on the subject property (Kristas Lot 1275). Starting at a depth of 50' is a layer of hardpan. This hardpan continues down to the bedrock. The bedrock layers start at a depth of 74' and extend to the bottom of the well. Water was described as being present just above the bedrock layers. The confined aquifer is protected by the hardpan layers above that will protect it from surface contamination. The ground level at the water well on Kristas Lot 127A is at higher elevation than the septic tank on the subject property. Should sewage overflow the septic tank, it would drain away from the western neighbor's well. Water samples on the subject property were tested in June 2020. The test results show that Coliform is absent, Nitrate is 0,041 mg/L and Arsenic is 2.555 ug/L.
