The drainfield is in a state of failure and needs to be upgraded. The homeowner would like the new septic system to be designed for 4 bedrooms. One test hole was excavated on the property. The drainfield will be designed around the 30 foot radius of this test hole. Comments regarding the design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: See the attached log which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. 2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications. 3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface water concerns. 4. TOPOGRAPHY AND SLOPE WAIVER: The topography in the area of the proposed drainfield ranges from 5 to 10 percent running approximately southeast to northwest. Due to site constraints, we are requesting a 25 foot waiver to slopes in excess of 25% (a slope —4 feet high at this point). See the attached cross section drawing for details. This detail shows that the imaginary 25 percent slope line starting 2 feet above the top of the distribution line will not daylight at this slope at the steepest area. 5. TANK WAIVER: We are requesting a variance from the 2/3-1/3 requirement for tank compartments. We are proposing to utilize the existing 1000 gallon HDPE tank and install a 500 gallon lift station after the existing tank. If suspended solids were to make it past the second compartment, the bio -filter on the lift station would prevent solids from entering the drainfield. The scope of this project includes the replacement of the existing 1250 gallon septic tank with a new 1000 gallon lIDPE septic tank and a pump basin to serve the existing three bedroom residence located on the referenced property. 2. All standpipes on the septic tank shall extend a minimum of 12 inches above final grade. 4. Septic tanks installed with less than 4 ft. of cover shall be insulated. 5. A foundation cleanout shall be installed one to four feet from the building foundation. In the line between the tank and the leachfield there shall be two adjacent cleanouts (unless an effluent pumping system exists within the septic tank). These cleanouts shall be located on undisturbed soil riot more than 10 ft. from the tank. The first cleanout, in line, shall be to clean toward the leachfield. The second cleanout shall be to clean toward the septic tank. 6. Final grading over the septic tank shall be such that a positive slope exists away from the septic tank. MINIMUM MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS: 1. Any septic tank proposed for installation must be constructed by a Municipal approved septic tank manufacturer. 2. The final inspection is to occur upon final grading of the property. The inspecting engineer is to be contacted at least 24 hours prior to the start of construction. If necessary, a pre -construction meeting will take place on-site. The inspecting engineer will not coordinate, direct or control in any way the contractors activities.
