The property is currently served by an older 3 bedroom septic system, which was not installed per the design, and may be in the easement. The owner wishes to install a new 3 bedroom leachfield. The proposed design features one new leachfield, and re -use of the existing HDPE tank. The design uses new and existing soils logs. It is important to note that -3.5' of fill has been placed over the original grade. Ground water was not encountered in 2015, however the soils logs from 2007 indicate a seasonal high groundwater table of 7.5' below original grade. The lot does contain some steep slopeE, to-maiRtairrtt -regal ed Lto.�@r �An iremeat. We are requesting a waiver from the leach field to the top of a steep slope. Fill will be placed to ensure a theoretical 25% slope line 2.5' above the edge of the leachfield, does not daylight within 35' of the leachfield.(see cross sections) Installation of the proposed system will not negatively impact adjacent lots. Drainage is not a major consideration in this design due. There is a curtain drain installed on the lot, however it should not interfere with the proposed system. Note that test hole #2 performed by ERES percolated at a rate of 20 minutes per inch. The other two perc tests yielded results less than 6 minutes per inch. We are proposing to utilize an average application rate of 0.8 for the design of the proposed leach field. Greater than 50% of the drainfield will reside within 30' of the TH-1 and TH-3, with application rates of 1.2 gpd/sgft. The septic design is for a 3 bedroom, single family residence only. 2. The site plan and drawings shall be a part of this specification. 3. The Wastewater system shall be installed by a certified installer in accordance with moa requirements. All materials and workmanship shall meet the Anchorage Department of Health and State Department of Environmental Conservation requirements. 4. All soil tests are advisory to the design and are to be verified or modified in the field by the engineer. The engineer shall perform percolation tests and groundwater monitoring prior to finalizing design.. 5. All excavations and depths are advisory and are to be verified in the field by the contractor to meet Municipality of Anchorage, Department of Environment of Conservation requirements. 6. It is the responsibility of the owner to obtain all necessary permits or easements and to locate any adjacent multi -family wells. A licensed surveyor should locate all nearby lot lines, easements, exact 100' radius from the existing and neighboring on- site wells, and any nearby surface water. The excavation is to be exactly in the area shown on the site plan, any deviation requires engineer approval. 8. Any remaining open test hole excavations shall be filled and monitor tube removed, after construction of the Drainfield. 9. The contractor shall provide the engineer with adequate notice to perform inspections. 10. Insulate the sewer line if it passes under the driveway or parking area, with a minimum of 2" extruded board insulation, rated for burial, and on the moa approved list. B. SEPTIC TANK 1. The Existing Septic Tank shall be used. 2. Install a foundation cleanout within 5' of the foundation if one is not present. 3. Install 2 after tank cleanouts between the tank and drain field. C. DRAINFIELD The Drainfield is to be located as shown on the site plan. Notify Engineer of any changed site conditions. 2. The total depth of the initial drainfield excavation is to be at maximum 6' deep Bottom of excavation shall be level +/- 1.5" max. If bedrock or inconsistent soils are encountered, notify the engineer immediately. 3. In the event of over -excavation, a moa filter sand shall be used to maintain the 6' separation distance from the bottom of each trench to the bottom of the test hole(s).The top of the sand layer shall be level, plus or minus 1.5", and raked, prior to placing sewer rock. Care shall be taken to not compact the sand. 4. A 1.8 ft effective layer of sewer rock is to be placed in the each trench. The effluent piping is to be set on top of this layer ,buried with sewer rock, with 2" of sewer rock cover over the piping. 5. The Distribution pipe shall be 4" perforated pvc pipe conforming to ASTM D3034. 6. The complete Drainfield gravel and piping is to be covered with a geotextile filter fabric. 7. Soil or combination of soil and extruded board insulation to a depth of 5' or equivalent is to be placed over the drainfield. Mounded side slopes shall not to exceed 3:1. The minimum insulation thickness shall be 2". Insulation shall be moa approved and rated for burial. 8. Box 196650 Anchorage, AK 99519 Re: Charlice Tract C-1 A1-2 Narrative & Permit Application Dear Mr. Roth: Eagle River Engineering Services (ERES) was contracted to design a 3 bedroom well and septic system at the above referenced property. Two test holes and soils percolation test has yielded a silty sand and gravel mix (GM) with a percolation rates of 4 minutes per inch, and 20 minutes per inch at 3.5' below the ground surface. The water table was monitored for 7 days and found to be at 7.5' and 7.7' below the gound surface in both test holes. The soil type appears adequate to support a primary and replacement 3 bedroom septic system. Due to the differing percolation rates, we propose the following method to calculate the required size for the leachfield. We shall have the majority (more than 50%) of the primary and replacement leachfield sites within the radius of the test hole with a 1.2 gallons per day per ft2 application rate. Less than 50% of the leachfield shall be within the radius of the test hole with an application rate of 0.6 gallons per day per ft2. Averaging the percolation rates yields 12 minutes per inch, which correlates to an application rate of 0.8 minutes per inch. We utilized this application rate for the design of this leachfield. Steep slopes are identified on our septic system site plan. The area below our design leachfield location is at a slope of 25% or less. A curtain drain has been installed in approximately the location shown on the site plan, and should not interfere with the function of this proposed septic system. The proposed 3 bedroom septic system and well will have very limited impact on adjacent properties for the following reasons: 1. The surrounding lots are large, so there is room for wells, septic systems and alternate sites. 2. Immediate neighboring septic systems are all +20' distance, and no private (or community) wells within 200' of the proposed septic system. 4. The bottom of the drainfield excavation shall be level, plus or minus 1.5", prior to placing sewer rock. 3. The total depth of the drainfield excavation shall not exceed 3.5 ft. at any point in relation to natural ground surface, prior to placement of the sand layer. 4. The drainfield gravel shall be covered with typar fabric material. 5. Soil or a combination of soil and extruded board insulation to at depth of 3' or equivalent is to be placed over the leachfield. 6. On March 19,1984S &S Engineers dug one testhole for the proposed system. The results of this test are attached. The general slope of this lot is from north to south at a grade of approximately 20-25%. We have designed our system utilizing the existing testhole that was excavated for the 5 -bedroom house, which is proposed for this lot. The lot will be served by an individual well, located on the northern portion of the lot. We propose to install two 5' wide shallow trenches. Water was encountered during the excavation and monitoring at 7'. There are no public or private wells within 200' of our proposed system location except as noted. There is no surface water within 100' of the proposed system and there are no known curtain drains within 50'.
