The septic system will be designed around the 30 foot radius of T1191 previously installed by Steve Pannone for Meg and Steve Jones. The monitor tube for Tl IU is still in place. A water well is also to be installed on the property. Research of the wells in the area indicate that water will most likely be found between 250 and 450 feet. SOILS: The attached soils logs show sands with silts SP/SM from below OG to nearly the bottom of the test holes at 16' no ground water or seeps were present in the test holes and inspection of the monitoring tubes since May 1 have revealed no water at the original test hole depth of 16'. Percolation tests conducted by Mr. Pannone provided a perc rate of 27 minlin. An application rate of 0.6 gallon/day/tt2 is supported by this data. TOPOGRAPHY: Average Topography in the area of the system installation is 5-10% slopes running E -W. The trenches arc to be installed parallel to the slope contours. Box 102954 .ge, Alaska, 99510 )07)272-8218 Fax You contacted me to perform a soils investigation on the subject lot to assist you in purchasing this lot. The purpose of the soils investigation was to determine the suitability of the discovered soils for the construction of an onsite soil absorption septic system for afive bedroom multi- family house. The soils investigation and percolation test was conducted on April 21, 2003. Two test holes were excavated on the lot. The attached soil logs shows that we encountered a variety of soils in the test pit. I have attached the soillogs for your reference. The soils in the test pit are acceptable for a soil absorption system (the poorly gradedsand with silts between approximately two feet (2) below ground level and 15 feet below ground level with a percolation rate between 15 and 30minutes per inch.) No ground water or bed rock was found in the test hole. ADEC Regulations govern for multi family homes, and require a minimum of four (4) feet vertical separation between the bottom of a soil absorption system and ground water for a conventional system and six feet (61 to bedrock or other impermeable layers (tight silts and clays). Additionally, the accepting soils must have a percolation rate of less than 120 minutes per inch. In conclusion, the soils investigation shows that a conventional soil absorption system can be installed on the subject lot based on the soils discoverer) the percolation test performed, and the ground water monitoring conducted to date. I would recommend a conventional trench type system, with the bottom of the trench at ten feet below ground level, and six feet (6) of drain rock below the perforated lateral drainpipe. The trench would be 105 feet long. A 1500 -gallon septic tank is required for a five -bedroom house. The estimated design cost would be approximately $2,000 and the installation cost would be approximately $10,000 to $12,000. I am experienced in pipe laying and excavator operation and have assisted in the installation of septic systems in Fairbanks and Wasilla. In regard to the request to provide mid -point entry into the system, 1 request that this requirement be waived due to the fact that 1 will be installing both fields at the same time and alternating between the two. This should mitigate the concern of early drop out and associated bio -mat growth. Please call if you have any questions regarding these responses.
