The purpose of this letter is to provide the required design narrative in support of our appl;cat;c•n
fora permit to install a vault privy on Lot 6, Block 4, Raven Mountain Estates #1, located on Crow
Creek Road in Girdwood. A site plan, desigr drawings and specifications are enclosed for your rwicw.
The owner of this lot is in the process of applying for a land use permit allowi tg use ol'a cabin
as a dwelling on this lot. After consultation with Municipal officials he has elected to install a vault
privy to serve his cabin, because extreme slopes and unconsolidated talus soil preclude tie option of
installing an on-site soil absorption system. lie is aware that this permit will not allow him to drill a
well on this lot; thus he plans to utilize water transported in plastic jugs for eating, dririVng and
washing. The owner is also aware that his gray water will have to be collected and disposed of properly
off-site.
The topography of much of the lot slopes steeply down towards the east at slo 3es ranging from
35% to 50%. The proposed vault privy will be situated near the northeast comer of t' a lot at a dislancc
of more than 100 feet from any surface water or wells.
The proposed project, if operated in accordance with Municipal requirements, will have no
significant impact on present or future water supply and wastewater disposal systems serving adjacent
properties, nor will it have any significant impact on reserved space -surface and subsurface, or on
drainage.
I have informed the owner, Mr. Veatch, of the additional requirements outlinel ty Dan Rvti ns.
follows: (1) Mr. Veatch will personally come in and sign for the permit agreeing to the requirement that
no well or other source of running water is allowed. (2) He will also provide a letter from a septic
pumping company agreeing that they will pump the vault privy on an as -requested ba>is. (3) I Ie wall
also provide a description of how grayw•ater generated on this property will be dispos,-d of at an

specifications
1.0 General:
1.1 The scope of the project consists of installation of a vault privy utilizing an eppro%ed 500-
gallon septic tank to contain excreta, which will then be pumped and transported to an approved disposal
facility.
1.2 Construction shall be as depicted on the approved site plan and design drawings. Minor
deviations from these drawings may be allowed or required by the engineer conducting the inspection.
All construction procedures and material specifications shall conform to Municipal at d State
requirements. All separation distances shall be in conformance with Municipal requirements, unles,
specifically waived.
2.0 Vault Privy Tank:
2.1 The new 500 -gallon single -compartment septic tank shall be 1dunicipal1) approved and
have a bituminous coating. The manhole shall be fitted with a waterproof manhole riser extending to
just below the level of the seat in the privy. An uncapped vent pipe made of ASTM U-3034 PVC shat l
be plumbed into the side of the manhole riser and from there extended up through the roof of the pri%y
structure.
2.2 The aboveground privy structure shall be fabricated to the owner's design in accorda:ice
with all of the requirements of the latest edition of the Sanitarian's Handbook or as illustrated on the
Municipal handout.
3.0 Inspection:
3.1 One (1) engineering inspection will be necessary after the privy is constructed to documerr:
conformance with these specifications and Municipal requirements. The owner shall provide to the
engineer a receipt documenting that the tank is an approved coated septic tank.
