Dear Reviewer, C&M Engineering services was hired to design a new septic system for the above referenced property. Five test holes were dug on the lot, and percolation tests conducted. Groundwater was not encountered in any of the holes when dug, or after monitoring for 7 days. The Test holes indicated shallow weathered/fractured bedrock located across the property. The development of the reserve system may require the use of significant quantities of fill and leveling sand to achieve required bedrock separation distances. Use of an Advantex or similar system is recommended for the development of the reserve system to reduce drainfield size. The design of the reserve system utilizes a 2005 soils log by KND, titled 2005-3. The proposed septic system will have very limited impact on adjacent properties. The neighboring lots are either developed, or of large size with significant room for development. Drainage will not be significantly impacted by the installation of this replacement septic system. No ground water was identified within 200' of the proposed system during the March 25th site investigation. Dear Reviewer, Please see the attached revisions to the previously submitted permit package. The attached documents should address the MOA review comments dated 5(8/2014. The review comments identify some relatively minor issues, and potential issues with the topography, and bedrock depth. On 5112/14, 1 traveled to the site to perform additional topographic measurements to verify the accuracy of the slopes shown on the site plan. A cross section has been drawn based on these measurements. My measurements indicate shallower slopes than described by the MONS publically available 4' contours. I have provided an additional cross section showing the proposed system above a steep slope. The intent is to provide the contractor with direction, in the event a slope steeper than 25% is discovered on the property. I did not observe any slopes steeper than 25% that will impact the septic location. During the review, it was noted that the lower trench was within the influence of TH-2, which identifies bedrock at 4.5' below existing grade. The lower trench has been re -designed to mitigate shallow bedrock concerns. The trench has been moved outside the 30' radial influence of TH-2, lengthened, and changed to a 0.5' effective depth, with a reduced excavation depth overall. This is believed to be a reasonable approach, given the potential for sporadic bedrock in the area. Thank you for your time in reviewing this permit request. The septic design is for a 4 bedroom, single family residence only. 2. The site plan and drawings shall be a part of this specification. 3. The Wastewater system shall be installed by a certified installer in accordance All materials and workmanship shall meet the Anchorage Department of Health and State Department of Environmental Conservation requirements. 4. All soil tests are advisory to the design and are to be verified or modified in the field by the engineer. The engineer shall perform percolation tests at the end of each drainfield during construction. In the event of a change in soil type, the design will be modified, and the department notified. 5. All excavations and depths are advisory and are to be verified in the field by the contractor to meet Municipality of Anchorage, Department of Environment of Conservation requirements. 6. It is the responsibility of the owner to obtain all necessary permits or easements and to locate any adjacent multi -family wells. A licensed surveyor should locate all nearby lot lines, easements, exact 100' radius from the existing and neighboring on- site wells, and any nearby surface water. 7. The excavation is to be exactly in the area shown on the site plan, any deviation requires engineer approval. 8. Any remaining open test hole excavations shall be filled and monitor tube removed, after construction of the Drainfields. B. SEPTIC TANK 1. Septic tank shall be a fiberglass or steel, 1250 -gallon tank capacity of MOA approved construction. Installed to meet MOA requirements. 2. Install a foundation cleanout within 5' of the foundation. 3. Install 2 after tank cleanouts between the tank and drainfields. 4. A combination of soil and 2" minimum of insulation shall be placed over the tank, to prevent ponding and promote drainage. C. DRAINFIELDS 1. The Drainfields are to be located as shown on the site plan. Notify Engineer of any changed site conditions. The drainfields shall gently curve to match the site contours. 2. The total depth of the initial drainfield excavation is to be at maximum 2.5' deep at the upper drainfield and 1' max at the lower drainfield, or as required removing the topsoil layer, and ending in native sandy GM -type soil. Bottom of excavation shall be level +/- 1.5" max. If bedrock or inconsistent soils are encountered, notify the engineer immediately. 3. In the event of over -excavation, a moa filter sand shall be used to maintain the 6' separation distance from the bottom of each trench to the top of bedrock.The top of the sand layer shall be level, plus or minus 1.5", and raked, prior to placing sewer rock. Care shall be taken to not compact the sand. 4. An eighteen inch (15) layer of sewer rock is to be placed in the upper trench. The 4" effluent piping is to be buried within the gravel layer with 2" of gravel cover over the piping, and 12" effective depth beneath the effluent pipe. 5. A twelve inch (1) Iayter of sewer rock is to be placed in the lower trench. The 4" effluent piping is to be buried within the gravel layer with 2" of gravel cover over the piping, and 12" effective depth beneath the effluent pipe. 6. The Distribution pipe shall be 4" perforated pvc pipe conforming to ASTM D3034. 7. The complete Drainfield gravel and piping is to be covered with a geotextile filter fabric. 8.
