Wastewater Disposal Regulations (18AAC72) and Drinking Water Regulations (18AAC80)
3. The wastewater code requires inspections during the installation. The engineer shall notify the Development

shall be either:

Septic System Design
Dear On -Site Services Engineer:
We were recently issued a change order to the original tank permit for rebuilding the existing septic
bed in place with intentions of confirming depth to bedrock near the replacement site. A test hole
was dug on August 16"' to a total depth of 6' before running into bedrock. With bedrock at this
depth, the proposed design is no longer compliant with codified separation distances to
impermeable surfaces. We are therefore proposing lifting the bed higher to meet the needed 6'
separation to bedrock.
A waiver was issued for the original proposed change order design for 0' separation to slopes
exceeding 25%. Since the design has changed, the original justification for the slope waiver is no
longer valid. Instead, we request a change to the waiver to allow for the installation of a bed using
the steep slope provisions intended for wide trenches mentioned in 15.65.210.13.4. The current
proposed design meets all steep slope provisions aforementioned with the exception of the
requirement that it not exceed 60 -inches in width. However, the bed itself is on a slope less that
10%. No daylighting of effluent from the existing field has occurred in its 3 8 years of use and no
horizontal migration of effluent is expected with the new system until it meets the interface of
bedrock.
Wells on this and adjacent lots are shown. The new absorption bed will be a minimum of 100'
from all wells and surface water, and more than 5' away from the Septic tank. No surface water is
within 100'.
Please refer to the attached plan sheet, sectional drawings, and profile for the septic design. If this
design is followed, there will be no adverse impacts to adjacent properties.

Dear On-Site Services Engineer:
The septic tank on the subject property has passed its useful life and must be replaced. We are
submitting this application for a permit to construct a new septic tank. The attached site plan
identifies the location of the home and the proposed and existing septic tank sites. No conflicts
exist between this proposed tank location and any other well or septic system, whether on this lot
or adj acent lots.
The new septic tank will be placed near the same location as the existing tank. Storm water
drainage will not impact this site.
Wells on this and adj acent lots are shown. The new tank will be a minimum of 100’ from all wells
and surface water, and more than 5’ away from the absorption trench. No surface water is within
100’.
Please refer to the attached plan sheet for the septic design. If this design is followed, there will be
no adverse impacts to adj acent properties.

Gentlemen:
Pursuant to our telephone conversation of September 27,1984 we offer the
following information to aid in your evaluation of the submitted Health
Authority Approval for the subject property.
1. The bed system was constructed between 0' and 2' below the
original grade, with fill added so that the cover extended about
4.5' above grade.( 6' above top of tile )
2. Subsequent to our final inspection, the owner added more fill (31
as part of his final site work. The fill was mounded over the top of
the system and has obscured the shape of the system and the orig-
inal topography. There is now 9' of fill above the top of tile.
