Re: Lots 1 and 2, Davidson Subdivision
Well Separation
Dear Mr. Davidson:
We have reviewed the proposed development as shown on Figure
1 and have also reviewed our soil report of April 5, 1979,
for the purpose of determining well and septic system separa-
tion. We understood that the proposed development will -
„consist of placing a duplex on Lot 1:'
The soils from 2 to 13 feet are gravel and have a high
percolation rate which is confirmed by both the percolation
test and the visual soil classification. The M -W well log
also indicates a highly permeable upper layer of sand and
gravel which is underlain by an adhesive silty sand from a
depth of 90 to 245 feet. The water bearing strata lies
below a depth of 245 feet. Topography of the general area
slopes steeply to the west although the lots are relatively
level.
The attached drawing indicates that the existing waste water
drain field lies over 100 feet, but less than 150 feet, from
the existing well.
We recommend that the newly constructed waste water drain
field be placed at least 150 feet from the existing well.
The existing well may be used to supply both structures on
Lots 1 and 2. The possibility of infiltration of waste
water into the aquafer is remote due to the high percolation
rate of shallow soils, topography, and soil stratigraphy.
Please call again if we may provide additional service.

Subject: Subsurface Investigation for Suitability of
On -Site Waste Water Disposal System
S 1/2 of Lot 31, Jewel Lake Units
Anchorage, Alaska
Dear Mr. Davidson:
Transmitted herein in accordance with your instructions are
the results of the above referenced investigation as performed
by us on April 5, 1979. The scope of this project is investi-
gation for suitability of an on-site waste -water disposal
system.
Included in this transmittal are:
Test liole Location Sketch Figure 1
Test dole Log Table A
Explanatory Information Sheets 1-3
The exploration was conducted using a continuous flight
solid stem auger. The rig is owned and operated by Denali
Drilling, Inc. Drilling was supervised, the test hole
logged and percolation test performed by Mr. 0.1-1. (latch,
geologist with Alaska Testlab.
The log of this test hole is included as Table A of this
report. In interpreting the log it would be helpful to
utilize the explanatory information contained in Sheets 1
to 3 of this report.
When drilling was completed a 3/4" slotted PVC pipe was
inserted in the hole to aid in determining the free water
level. For the percolation test, the test hole was filled
with water and left overnight to saturate. On returning the
next day, the hole was refilled with water and the drop in
the water level carefully monitored over the next 60 minutes.

This procedure is not a standardized percolation test,
however, we understand that the Municipality of Anchorage,
Department of Public Health and Environmental Protection
prefers tests performed in this manner to evaluate a site
for a proposed on-site sewerage system.
Using the above test, the observed minimum percolation rate
was 0.1 minutes per inch. This is an usually fast percolation
rate as the soils are clean, granular, and fairly well
graded. Vie suggest the system be designed for an absorption
area of 70 square feet per bedroom. This recommendation is
based on criteria in the "Manual of Septic -Tank Practice",
U.S. Department of Health Education and Welfare, Public
Health Service.
Pie recommend that the seepage trenches be inspected prior to
installing the system as the above recommendations are based
on the result of a 6" test hole. The seepage trench will
provide a much clearer picture of the subsurface condition
than the test hole. If conditions are different than
encountered in the test hole, it may be necessary to lengthen
or enlarge the trenches.
Pio water table was ohserved during drilling. Therefore it
does not appear that the water table will interfere with the
construction or operation of the system.
We hope this report meets your present needs. If we can be
of further service, please feel free to contact us. .
Sincerely,
ALASKA TESTLAB
