of the driveway. The location of the septic tank is only approved if the constructed house is elevated as proposed.

Ladies and Gentlemen:
To design the drain field for the above referenced property I used an application rate of 0.6 gal/sq.ft./day
based upon the percolation test conducted in conjunction with test hole//2 (22.6 min/in). For a four
bedroom residence this would require a minimum absorption area of 1000 sq.ft.
The previously approved design consists of two trenches 60 feet long with 5.5 feet of rock. This provides
an absorption area of 1320 sq.ft. While the soils logged in test holes #1 and #3 are generally similar to that
of test hole #2 some variation does exist. A percolation rate of 2 minutes per inch was observed in test hole
#1. The percolation test for test hole #3 was conducted in a shallow silt layer and was observed at 120
min/in. While a portion of the drain field absorption area may be in the silt layer, I believe an application
rate of 0.6 gal/sq.ft./day results in a conservative design that accounts for variability in the soils.
Below is a calculation of the absorption capacity of the proposed drain field based upon the soil
observation from the three test holes.
From Test hole #1 (approximately 50% of drain field area)
Effective depth of rock 5.5 feet
4.0 feet in soils rated at 1.2 gal./sq.fi./day
1.5 feet in soils unsuitable for stand septic system 0 gal./sq.ft./day
60 feet * 8 feet * 1.2gal/sq.ft./day + 60 feet * 3 feet * 0 gal./sq.ft./day = 576 gallons per day

Ladies and Gentlemen:
I am writing to request a permit for the construction ora new well and septic system for the above
referenced property. The proposed system will serve a 4-bedroom single-family residence.
System: A 1500 gallon STEP tank with a deep trench absorption field. The absorption field will
consist of 2 60 feet long trenches and contain 5.5 feet of sewer rock.
Soils: A test holes were excavated on September 5, 2007. See the attached soil logs. The soils
encountered were highly variable, but generally consisted of gravelly silt, silt, silty gravel, and
gravelly silty sand. Percolation rates varied between 120 min per inch in the silt oftest hole/13 and 2
minutes per inch in the silty sandy gravel in test hole #1. A conservative design was based on a
percolation rate of a highly silty area of the gravelly sand. Ground water was observed at 12' below
the ground surface in test hole #2 on June 4th, 2008. On June 24th all test holes were dry.
Surface Water: There are no surface waters within 100 feet ofeither the proposed septic system
area or the reserve site.
Topography: The topography of the area slopes to the west between 15%- 20 %. The drain field
will be installed parallel to the slope.
Waivers: No waivers am required.

The installation of this septic system will not prevent wells and septic systems from being
installed on the adjacent lots. The proposed septic system will not change the general slope of
the area. Ponding and/or concentration of surface runoff will not result from this installation.
