The on-site well and septic permit for the referenced property was issued on October 9, 2009 and expired one year later on October 9, 2010. When the permit was issued, it was not known that one of the adjacent properties had a class "C" well on it. The subject property's permitted septic design did not satisfy the minimum separation distance (150 feet) to the well and as such required a waiver prior to construction. Construction of the septic system had begun before the permit expired, but was stopped while a waiver to the well was being acquired. The permit then expired while the waiver was being processed. The waiver was issued on October 27, 2010. On November 5, 2010 you requested the permit's expiration date be extended to next year. The On- site Water and Wastewater Program is agreeable to extending the permit's expiration date, but not to next year. This letter extends the permit's expiration date to December 10, 2010, after which a new permit will be required. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at your convenience. We are proposing to install a 1000 gallon septic tank and a bed type drainfield. Two test holes were excavated on the property. The drainfield will be designed around the 30 foot radii of these test hole. Comments regarding the design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: See the attached logs which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. 2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications. 3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed septic system. 4. TOPOGRAPIIY: As can be seen on the attached design drawing the drainfield is placed at the base of a hill with 50 percent slope running approximately southeast to northwest. The area below the drainfield is relatively fiat. We are unaware ~ any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic systems. At the time the lot was being prepared for the septic, the neighbor brought up the fact that she had a class C well. It was later determined that she had not run the home as a B&B or multifamily and that her own septic required a waiver. Due to this problem, I also had to get a waiver for the septic on my property. You had offered an extension to mid December however ! am unable to begin construction this time of year. Please extend my permit until assistance!the end of July, 2011.
