The existing 1000 gallon and 500 gallon single compartment tanks will be replaced with a 1000 gal. dual compartment tank. Also, the existing deep trench will be replaced with two shallow trenches to the east. The property is currently served by public water and on-site sewer. Existinl~ system: The existing system consists of unidentified four inch piping routed from a cleanout near the NW corner of the existing house which travels NW approximately 45 feet to the location of the existing 1000 gallon concrete tank which is currently either failing or being bypassed completely. The line then continues to the west approximately :[5 feet where it connects to a 500 gallon steel tank. The line departs the steel tank to the west and south an additional 30 feet to the middle of the 42'L x 6'D deep trench septic field that lies 13 feet east of the western property line. Box 340010 Prudhoe Bay, AK 99734 PH: (907) 659-5000 September 24, 2010 Construction of New Septic System: The concrete tank will be partially demolished and filled with sand and the steel tank will be removed completely. The new tank will be installed between the existing tank locations. New piping will be installed from the existing foundation cleanout to the new tank and then from the new tank to the two new drainfields. The existing drainfield will be replaced with (2) 28.S'Lx5'Wx4'D shallow trenches located 12 feet and 27 feet east from the existing drainfield. At start of construction a groundwater monitoring tube extending to a depth of 12 feet shall be placed near the proposed absorption trenches' location. If groundwater is encountered, all work shall be stopped and contractor shall notify engineer. The 100' well radius for the well on Lot 35, south of the project site, shall be located by a licensed surveyor prior to drainfield construction. When construction is completed, a COSA will be performed on the new system. All construction and demolition shall be performed to meet the minimum standards detailed in the current Anchorage Municipal Code (AMC) Chapter :15.65. The septic tank and piping shall be installed on undisturbed native soils or in trenches that have been adequately compacted. The service line shall not exceed the maximum allowable slopes. Cleanouts shall be installed on the service line, septic tanks, and lateral ends. A monitoring tube shall be placed in each trench. All cleanouts and monitoring tubes shall extend a minimum I foot above finished grade. Maintenance of Septic System: Routine maintenance shall be performed on the system, including pumping of the septic tank at least every two years. Using garbage disposals and flushing of non-degradable items (coffee grounds, cigarette butts, tampons, paper towels, etc.) should be avoided. The owner should limit heavy surface loads on the area to maintain the structural integrity of the system. Trees and other large plants should be removed and maintained at an adequate distance to prevent roots from growing into the system.
