Box 196650 Anchorage, AK 99519-6650 Subject: Upgrade Sewer Permit—Ruth Callan Lot 18A The owner has requested we proceed forward to obtain a septic permit to upgrade the septic system from a 2-bedroom system to a 4-bedroom system. The general slope of this lot is from south to north at a grade of approximately 0- 3% over the septic area. On July 30, 2018 two testholes were performed to investigate soils and groundwater. The results of this test are attached for your review. We propose to install two shallow trenches using previous, historical groundwater data (7.5') found in the MOA file (2011 TH). Groundwater was encountered at 8' (TH18-1 / lower hole) during excavation and at 6' (TH18-1) and 11' (TH18-2) at monitoring. The property and adjacent lots are served by private water. There is no surface water within 100' of the proposed system and there are no known curtain drains within 50'. The proposed systems will serve an existing two-bedroom house. The existing drain field is undocumented and was found not to meet the minimum size required for a two bedroom house or the minimum separation distance to groundwater. Currently the lot is developed. The lot is served by a private water supply. A new drain field will be installed and the existing drain field will be abandoned per code. The surrounding developed lots are served by private water systems. The private wells are located over 100 feet from the proposed soil absorption system. 1. Soils. A single test hole was excavated by Pannone Engineering in May of2011. See the attached soil log. Ground water was monitored for seven days. Ground water was monitored at a depth of 7.5 feet below ground level after the monitoring period. Bedrock was not encountered in the test hole. It is my opinion, based on the results of the percolation tests and overall soils appearance; an application rate of 1.2 gallons/day/square feet should be used, using a 1000 gallon septic tank that will discharge into a five foot wide trench. Soil Absorption System Design. See Design Drawings sheet 2 of 2 for design calculations. 3. Surface Water: There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed septic tank and the existing drain field. The proposed drain field upgrade will maintain at least 100 feet from all surface water and drainage ditches. 4. Topography: The average topography in the area of the proposed septic system is approximately flat based on the survey information.
