Box 196650, Anchorage, AK 99519-6650 (907) 343-7904 Ref: Well and Septic Design for Fire Lake Subdivision; Tract A of Lot 1 To whom it may concern: Per the request of the owner, we have designed a proposed well location and septic system for a 3 bedroom house. Several test holes were excavated on the property. The proposed septic system will be designed around the 30 foot radii of test holes #5 and #6. We are proposing that a 1000 gallon septic tank and a bed type drainfield be installed. We are also proposing that a sewage pump station be installed for the garage which is on a lower pad from the house. The pressurized line from the sewage pump station to the septic tank may need to be placed is arctic pipe with heat trace due to outcroppings of bedrock between the garage and house location that will restrict burial depth. Comments regarding the proposed design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: Attached are the logs which show the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. The percolation rate for TH#5 and TH#6 were found to be faster than 1 minute/inch so a 2 foot sand filter will be required. An application rate of 0.7 gallons/day/ft2 is required for a bed type drainfield with a sand filter. 2. BED DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications. 3. SURFACE WATERS: There is surface water (intermittent stream) south of the proposed septic system. The septic system will be installed 100+ feet of any surface water. 4. TOPOGRAPHY AND SLOPE WAIVER REQUEST: As can be seen on the attached design drawing, the proposed drainfield is to be installed on a fairly flat area in a swale. The general topography for the property runs southeast to northwest. We have attached a cross section detail drawing (page 3 of 4) which shows a profile of the slope 3701 E. We are requesting a waiver from the drainfield to a slope that is greater than 25 percent. As can be seen on the profile, at a 25 percent slope 2 feet above the top of the drainrock (filter fabric) the slope does not daylight within 50 feet. However, we are requesting a 23 foot waiver from the drainfield to slope that that is greater than 25 percent. The following is mitigating factors for the issuance of the waiver: · Given the porosity of the soils, there should be minimal risk with lateral migration of the effluent. · The area below the drainfield is heavily vegetated. Given these mitigating factors, there is minimal risk with the granting of this waiver. 5. LOT LINE WAIVER REQUEST: We are also requesting a 5 foot lot line waiver from the proposed drainfield to the east lot line. In order to maximize the distance for the drainfield to the steep slopes were are proposing that the drainfield be installed parallel to the east lot line. The property to the east is Chugach State Park. We are unaware of any adverse impact on the neighboring property with the granting of this waiver. We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic systems. If you have any questions, please contact me at 337-6179.
