Per the design, we were proposing to inspect the existing tank and rebuild the existing IDSF type drainfield. On 10/28/2022 ARM Septic services exposed the existing tank and found it to be in a state of failure. Recently, the buyer requested that the system be upgraded to 4 -bedrooms with a Quanics or Advantex treatment system. We are proposing a change order for a 1500 -gallon epoxy - coated steel tank or an Infiltrator IM -1060 septic tank (single compartment) followed by an IM -540 tank to be used as the recirculation tank (site conditions will determine which tank is installed) with an NS500 treatment pod and rebuilding only the south 24 feet of the north drainfield with 0.5 feet of effective (drainrock) and 4" perforated D3034 pipe. We are requesting that your department allow for the use of a CAT III application rate with the Quanics treatment system and allow for a 4 -bedroom approval. Justification for allowing only the north field to be rebuilt and approved for 4 bedrooms is as follows: • Per MOA records, the following facts were determined: o soils percolated at 12 min/inch o groundwater was 6 feet below grade on 10/20/2005 and 4.5 feet below grade on 9/9/2004. o The existing system was built at original grade o There is two feet of sand o There is an un -perked "Dense Silt" at 8 feet below O.G. • We are proposing an application rating of 5.0 gallons/day/ft2 (12 min/inch perk) • A 4 -bedroom house would require 600 gallons/day. With a 5.0 application rate, the minimum drainfield size would be 120 ft2 (600/5=120). The proposed north trench will be 5 feet wide x 24 feet long, which equates to 120ft2. • The new drainfield will have a 4'+ separation to seasonal high groundwater (Per MOA groundwater monitoring data) with the CAT II effluent. • We will have an 8 -foot separation distance to the un -perked soils that are 8' below original grade • The Quanics effluent will travel through two feet of sand which will improve the effluent quality in terms of BOD and TSS prior to reaching the underlying GM soils. • There is a drainage ditch adjacent to the existing fields that previously had water in it. A berm must be installed to divert potential effluent runoff a minimum of 50' away from all surface waters. The berm will be constructed in the spring/summer of 2023. This is not a waiver request as the travel path will be 50'+, eliminating the need for a waiver. The drainage ditch, surface waters and berm must be shown on the post construction survey and record drawings. The test hole was excavated on 7/13/04. No water was found at the time of excavation and the monitoring tube was dry throughout the sUmmer. Extremely heavy rains occurred 8/26/04 which recharged ground water levels in the area. We understand you found the ground water level at the test hole to be as high as 3 feet below grade. However, we checked it on 9/6/04 and 9/9/04, and found the water level at 4 V2 feet below grade. On these dates it was noted that a depression had formed over the test hole and it was obvious that rain water had run into the depression and flooded the test hole. On 9/9/04 another backhoe was mobilized and fill was added over the test hole to prevent rain water runoff from flooding it. Another severe rain storm occurred on the night of 9/12/04. The monitoring tube was checked on 9/13/04 and the water level actually subsided to 5 feet below grade. As of this writing the water remains at this leveI. Any attempt to amend this agreement by either an unauthorized representative or unauthorized means shall be void. 6. Jurisdiction: Choice of Law. Any civil action arising from this Agreement shall be brought in the Superior Court for the Third Judicial District of the State of Alaska at Anchorage.
