Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519 Subject: Rabbit Creek Heights S/D Block 7H, Lot 8A Septic System Permit Upgrade Request Ladies and Gentlemen: I am writing in response to your comments dated April 24, 2008. Comment: Why do the slope arrows drawn not match the contours? Response: Contour Data was unavailable in 2005 when slope data was presented. Contours govern. Comment: The proposed trenches are not parallel to either slope notation. Response: Proposed field rotated 5 degrees to make parallel to slope. Comment: Have the existing systems had an adequacy test? Response: Both existing system were tested and found adequate for four bedrooms. Comment: After the "Review Only" drawings have been reviewed and you are notified that there are no additional comments, the "For Construction" drawingmust be submitted before the permit is issued. The permit won't be issued until the two sets of drawings have been compared. Response: Acknowledged. When we receive that there are no more comments, we will issue "for Construction Drawings: Comment: It looks like there was a lot line waiver for the bed. Please show their location accurately on the site plan. Response: Revised drawing Comment: 6" of top soil and vegetation required on proposed system. Response: Revised Sections Comment: New perc test required and water monitoring required to replace test submitted in 2005. Personnel from the Onsite Department are to witness the perc test. Response: New soils test and percolation test performed in May of 08. Your department was called on May 17, 2008 when I was notified an excavator was available. Results of new test is attached. Page 2 of 3 Design Parameters The proposed systems will serve a new four-bedroom house. Currently the lot is developed. The existing house was constructed as a two bedroom house. The Owner plans to add two additional bedrooms to the house. The lot is served by a private water supply that is to be reused. The existing septic systems shall be reused by tying the two fields together and the installation of a 1250 gallon septic tank and a flow splitter between the two fields. The lower trench of the 2005 system will be abandoned in place. The surrounding developed lots am served by private water systems. The private wells are located over 100 feet from the proposed soil absorption system. 1. Soils. Two test holes were excavated in August of 2005. And a new test hole in May of 2008. See the attached soil logs. Ground water was monitored through the spring high ground water period of 2008 and was monitored at a depth of 8 feet on August 22, 2005in test holes 1 & 2 and at 4.6 feet in test hole 3 in 2008. Bedrock was not encountered in the test holes. It is my opinion, based on the results of the percolation tests and overall soils appearance; an application rate of 4.0 gallons/day/square feet should be used, using an advanced treatment system meeting Category I1/treatment, for the reserve system calculations. The primary field should use an application rate of 0.6 gpd/sf using a conventional system. Primary System a. Percolation Rate: b. Application Rate: c. Design Flow: d. Min. Surface Water: There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed septic tank and the existing drain field. Topography: The average topography in the area of the proposed septic system is approximately 16 percent based on contour information. The proposed installation will be greater than 50 feet from the shoulder of the steep slopes. 6. Drawing Markings: The Drawings are marked "For MoA Review Only". When written notification that the review is complete and that there are no further comments is received from MoA On-Site Department, the note will be removed and "Issued for Constmction" drawings will be issued. The proposed installation will not affect the future development of the surrounding or existing lots. There are no wells or septic systems within 100 feet of the proposed septic location.
