All construction must be in accordance with: 1. The attached approved design.
2. All requirements specified in Anchorage Municipal code Chapters 15.55 and 15.65 and the State of Alaska Wastewater
Disposal Regulations (18AAC72) and Drinking Water Regulations (18AAC80).
3. The wastewater code requires inspections dudng the installation. The engineer must notify the Development Services
Department at least 2 hours prior to each inspection. Provide notification by calling (907) 343-7904 (24 hours),
4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather must either:
A. Open and Close on the same day.
B. Covered sealed and heated to prevent freezin~ .... --
· ~pecial Provisions:
· 1. The entire subsurface disposal field and/or alternate is not within a 30 foot radius of a
· percolation test. The Engineer needs to do an additional pemolation test prior to the construction
· of the septic field. Please submit stamped and signed results with the As-built Inspection Report.
~ If the results require a design change, construction of the system will stop pending On-Site review
· and approval. AMC 15.65.060.B.3

Ladies and Gentlemen:
I am writing to request a septic system installation permit for the above referenced property. The
existing septic system was installed in the early 1990's without a permit and consists of a 1500
gallon steel tank and an shallow absorption trench with 3 feet (effective) of sewer rock. The
proposed system will serve a 4-bedroom single-family residence. Soil logs, design calculations,
a site plan, design drawings and construction specifications are enclosed for your review.
Design Calcs: No groundwater observed (2/26/13). Test hole depth 14 feet.
Soil Rating. From Test hole (2/18/13)
<1 min/in = 1.2' gal per sq.fl/day
No. of Bedrooms 4
Required Areaper Bedroom: 150/1.2 =125 sq.ft.
Total area required: 125 x 4 = 500 sq. ft.
Shallow Trench with 36 inches effective
Trench Length= 500/5*0.58= 58 ft
*We are proposing to use the application rate allowed in the Code Rewrite
currently being adopted.
System: Verify existing system meet design requirements and MOA standards. The absorption
field n;u;t be 70 feet long, 5 feet wide and contain 3.0 feet (603 sq. ft. effective) of sewer rock.
Soils: A test hole was excavated on February 18, 2013. See the attached soil logs. A
percolation test was conducted at a depth of 6 feet in the gravelly sand. The percolation rate was
less than 1 minute per inch. A filter sand layer should not be required because the instu soils are
more than 50% sand (visual observation) and will provide effective treatment of the septic tank
effluent. A portion of the existi.ng, drain field is in the sand and gravel layer that extends to a

depth of 6 feet. This soil layer has a higher fraction of gravel present and its percolation rate
would also be less than a minute per inch. A ground water monitoring tube was installed and
ground water monitoring will continue through construction of the septic system. Groandwater
was not observed on February 26, 2013.
Surface Water: There are no surface waters within one hundred feet of the proposed septic
system upgrade.
Topography: The ground surface is generally level in the area of the existing/proposed septic
system. No cut banks or slopes greater than 25 % were observed within 50 feet of the
existing/proposed system.
Waivers: None
The installation of this septic system will not prevent wells and septic systems from being
installed on the adjacent lots. The proposed septic system will not change the general slope of
the area. Ponding and/or concentration of surface runoff will not result from this installation.
