Benchmark During the original site investigation, the northwest property corner of the lot was selected to be the project benchmark. The project benchmark used, has an elevation of 90.37 feet, set by the project surveyor. The septic design for the project has based its elevations on this benchmark. Groundwater On October 9, 2013 Brandon Jones, Engineer Technician and I went to the site to measure the depth of the groundwater. A typical steel retractable tape measure the groundwater depth was determined to be 7.58 above the bottom of the test hole. The bottom of the test hole elevation determine to be 86.35 feet. Based on the bottom elevation of 86.35 the ground water on October 9, 2013 was 93.93 feet. Leet 2 In Summary Municipality of Anchorage requires that the bottom of the septic rock be a minimum of four -foot above the seasonal high groundwater table, AMC 15.65.060. From the measurements and data collected, the season high water table is 93.93 feet. With collected data, I can safely say that the bottom of the rock in the absorption field will need to be at 97.93 feet or higher. We propose a bottom of field elevation of 98.00, and an invert elevation of 102. Using 2" of rigid insulation ( DOW Chemical Co. Styrofoam. HI or equal), we propose a finish grade of 105.00. Elevation Corrections With the request we are also correcting a typographical mistake. During our original survey we assumed an elevation of 100 feet on the Northwest property corner. Subsequently, the surveyor of record established the elevation of 90.37. A difference of 9.63. Unfortunately, this was not caught of the original design documents. Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 RE: Sun Valley Block 2, Lot 6 Subject: Permit Request — Design Narrative Dear Mr. Crewdson: The owner of the above referenced lot is proposing a 3 -bedroom single-family residence. We are requesting a plan review and a permit to install a well and septic system to serve the proposed development. Soils One test hole was excavated and two percolation tests were performed by Alaska Rim Engineering, Inc. on May 14, 2013. The approximate location of the test hole is located on the attached site plan and is identified as TH #1. The soils were visually rate SW -GW with cobbles. Percolation test were performed to verify the percolation rate see percolation test sheets. The percolation were excavated up gradient of the test hole see site plan for location. On May 23, 2012, groundwater was observed 14 - feet below the surface, no change in elevation since May 14tH Topography The site has a about a 5- foot bank coming off the road right of way then flattens out to create a bench where the house and proposed septic system will be place behind the house the lot rises up to Hiland Drive AT A 25-30% grade. The area around the septic field is sloped about 10-15% with drainage to the west. Drain Field Design The dwelling proposed is a three-bedroom with a bonus room over the garage with an estimated daily wastewater flow rate of 600 gallons per day. The proposed wastewater application rate from the perk test is 1.2 gal/day/sft. The required absorption area is 500 square feet. Proposed is a wide drain field (five wide) with 48 -inches of gravel and a length of 100 feet. The reduction factor for a wide drain ALASKA RIM ENGINEERING, INC Sun Valley Block 2 Lot 6 Charles A. Surrounding Properties There are no water wells within 100 feet of the proposed septic system. This property and its neighboring lots are on private wells. Surface Waters There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed upgrades. We do not anticipate any adverse effects on the neighboring, septic systems, reserve areas or drainage patterns by the installation of the proposed septic system.
